Another sad event has the silver lining of being able to help a member of our community in need. Cupcake Royale’s Jody Hall sent out this message today about Capitol Hill store manager Jaime, her daughter Hanna and dog, Pearl, who lost their home in an apartment fire early this morning. The mail from Hall is below. Cupcake Royale’s 1111 East Pike location is the drop-off point for donations.

Hi,
Terrible news about Jaime – her apartment burned down last night – and pretty much lost everything (thankfully, her daugher and Jaime weren’t there last night – and her dog Pearl is ok).
Honestly, we’re stunned – but we want to rally to help out Jaime and Hanna. We have a lead on a great apartment – randomly via Kim as she was looking for a place to stay while in Seattle.
Hanna is a sweet 9 year old – loves girly girl stuff – and is a size 9. Her shoe is size 2.
Jaime is a size 6 and a size 7 shoe
They need the following:
Clothes & Shoes
Couch & Furniture
Kitchen Supplies
Dining table and chairs
MoneyWondering if folks have ideas on how to raise funds for this as well as a way to do a clothing/supply drive using our stores, customers, facebook, etc.
Would love your ideas on how we can help Jaime.
Thanks,
Jody
Seattle Fire responded to an apartment fire on Minor Ave E in Eastlake this morning just before 2 AM. KING 5 reported that the fire started in a couch. There were no injuries.
I have some plates, a table, and some other home things I will bring over tonight to donate! Sending positive vibes to Jaime and her family!
I may have some womens shoes in that size that were my grandmothers and will look at the furniture in the house to see if there is anything we don’t need. Also have some dolls, mostly barbies, to at least give her some toys if she likes playing with dolls. I’ll also email the rest of my order to see if anyone else has things that fit the bill.

I live in West Seattle so I may need help getting them to you.
Can you provide an email or phone number in case people need to coordinate donation of larger furniture items? Thanks.
Will add this above, too. Sorry for delay while we tracked down somebody to coordinate:

Thanks!
If some one could pick it up, I’d share my love seat. It’s plaid, and not perfect. Its major advantage is that it was professionally cleaned by Alpine Cleaning less than two weeks ago.

we have dog food, dog dishes, etc… we can bring over to your store for them.
Oh, email me until 4pm at [email protected] or text only to 206-250-2657
Spreading this as much as I can. I don’t have a lot but I can definitely see if my kidlet has a few stuffed animals he’d be willing to spare.
I want to send some books to Hanna. What’s her last name? I work for Usborne Books and wanted her to have some of these great books. I see the drop off point is at the store, but I live in Minnesota so I would like to send them to her specifically, with her name on them.
Thanks,

Thanks to all for your thoughts and support.
The Fire Dept estimated damages at $25,000. As noted above, we’ve established a Fire Fund for them through which we are hoping to raise as much as we can for Jaime and Hannah.
Please consider donating; any amount will help. You can even donate online by visiting here: https://www.wepay.com/donate/79505
They can also go to the YWCA Central District and join adopt a family for Christmas which is taking community walk ins!
This is very sad and a horrible thing to happen during the holidays. Her renters insurance should pay for most of her belongings.
