Plus points for a flash mob this past Christmas weekend that included a Capitol Hill session on 10th Ave in front of Elliott Bay Books:
- We received quite a few “tips” about it from surprised witnesses and a few participants.
- It wasn’t widely hyped ahead of time.
- The mob builds nicely. At first, you will say, “Lame. There’s only six of them.”
- Those are some enthusiastic young people!
- The flash mobbers manage to stay mostly in step.
- One Degree Events, the organizer of the mob, is a Cap Hill regular. Group often practices/performs in Cal Anderson and around the Hill.
- Ms. Nasty.
Negative points:
- Flash mob.
- They put up barricades to block the street to cars. Cowards.
- The purpose of the mob? To convince Janet Jackson to make Seattle a stop on her 2011 tour. Apparently the war in Afghanistan was taken.
Here’s the big show. Capitol Hill’s portion comes and goes so stick with it for some hot Pike/Pine dancing action.
This activity if very lame. Don’t these people have some better was to spend their time?
flash mobs are so 2007
Whoops! Looks like a couple of Yahoo! trolls got lost in the internets…
I thought this was great and it made me smile. Even serious people need to have a fun outlet and I’m sure I’d enjoy the company of anyone who participated in this. Thanks for posting, as well as all the stories you do:-)
I agree, but these dorks have to have something to do with their free time. I’m a major geek and even I find these things pretty lame. I guess it’s a GLEE type of world right now, so we have to put up with this craziness at times.
And Janet Jackson? Seriously?
It depends on what the definition of “fail” is really. Our Glee flash mob (see, we put both Glee and Flash Mob together) in April had 1000 dancers and has 1.5 million views on YouTube. If dancing with friends, causing a spectacle, and putting smiles on millions of people around the world is a failure, may I fail every day of the week. An even more epic fail? Sitting in front of your computer all day long criticizing other people’s fun. You should come dance with us and see why flash mobs bring so much joy to people’s lives!
“Don’t these people have some better was to spend their time?”
yeah, like trolling the internet and calling people lame, in the comments section of a neighborhood blog, because of an activity that you think is odd? what do you care that these people did this? did it physically hurt you in any way?
maybe you should find a better way to spend YOUR time.
@jb
calling something an “epic fail” is so 2008.
that turns Seattlites away from their laptops/smartphones/ipads should be applauded.
To the critics above, you’re not trolls in the internet sense. You’re trolls in the living under a bridge sense. Go back to your holes!
flash mob members rule!
oh my god, high school musical all over again. JUST STOP.
Some will stop. But most will realize that the “high school” spirit of Flash Mobbing keeps you young, energized, connected, laughing, nimble in mind and body. Nothing wrong with that, you should try it before you toss it away. See you next time I hope!
It’s “failure”.
These are the absolute worst!!!!
People love janet, they want her to come to their city. Let them have funa dn stop being abunch of a-holes to them. They had fun and enjoyed themselves. It was a great effort and Janet loved it. And if you dont like janet then i dont know why you open your mouth. Shut up. shes one of the highest selling musicians of all time and has amazing talent. Ya’ll need to get a life and stop trashing people who like to have fun. This isnt lame at all, they just love janet. I can bet one of you haters are goin to her concert. So shut the heck up.
You’re obviously “trolling on the internet” also. Hypocrisy.
