Spotted: Polar bear on Pine

There are only two explanations for a person wearing a polar bear suit on the streets of Seattle.

  1. Capitol Hill
  2. Hollywood

Put the two together and you get a string of white bear sightings reported to CHS Wednesday morning. According to the Stranger’s lead actress Lindy West, the bear was part of more on-Hill filming for indie pic Grassroots, the tale of Grant Cogswell’s unsuccessful 2001 run for the Seattle City Council. We’ve written a few times about the Stephen Gyllenhaal-helmed production which also features the Comet playing the Comet , turned the Stranger newsroom into a movie set, invited locals to act like it was 2001 and made it rain on 11th Ave. Box Office Magazine asks if it might be the “definitive Seattle movie.” The film is slated for a 2011 release.

Thanks to Laura Olson of Po Dog, etc. for sharing her wildlife pictures.

I saw him walk across the crosswalk and turn around and go back. I couldn’t figure out what he was doing then I saw him meet up with what looked like a friend and take off the his head! Regardless of what he was doing it didn’t seem to be causing a distraction to drivers just smiles…I love it!

Did anyone actually see the bear being filmed at the time these pics were taken? Or was the dude just on his break wandering around the Hill?? haha.

I saw two cows crossing the street down near Rancho Bravo today. I wonder if the three were part of the same gig.

I remember a news story in some other part of the country, where the police dressed someone in a big bunny costume, and had him try to cross at crosswalks — to give tickets to drivers who wouldn’t yield to pedestrians. The idea was to make them conspicuous, so drivers couldn’t claim they didn’t see them. Could it be that?

If’s the bear is not part of the movie…it could be Chuck Palahniuk. hahahaha

the film crew was setting up at Arabica on Wednesday morning; I couldn’t stay long enough to be an extra.

Is it part of the Nissan Leaf launch?

I, too was walking down Boren and saw the bear cross over the street several times, then talk to some guy who helped him take his “head” off. I didn’t see any film crews. Was this REALLY a movie???

Soon after that, I saw a kid walking backwards down Denny over the freeway with all his clothes on backwards. He didn’t seem like a crazy person. Was this part of the movie too? Again, didn’t see any film crews.
