No $125 tickets, yet, for being a jerk at night on the streets of Capitol Hill

Oh, Marilyn!, originally uploaded by MyLittleMotel.

New laws allowing Seattle Police to issue $125 tickets for obnoxious nighttime behavior kicked into effect with the start of February but there won’t be any “meathead” tickets handed out on Capitol Hill this weekend.

East Precinct officers are still waiting for training on enforcement of the amendment to section 15 of the Seattle muni code, precinct commander Capt. James Dermody tells CHS.

Dermody says the training for each of the precincts included in the new rules should be completed in the next couple of weeks. In addition, the Seattle Police Department mapping system must be updated to manage enforcement of the new amendment to the city’s nighttime disturbance laws which apply only to specific zones of the city including Belltown, Downtown and Capitol Hill.

Dermody said he expects managing enforcement of the so-called “meathead” ordinance to be a challenge. “Whenever you are dealing with somebody who is out on the street exhibiting the behaviors that are defined in the ordinance and typically have been drinking, that’s a difficult clientele anyway,” Dermody said.

The new rules make fighting, threatening another person, or making unreasonable noise in a Seattle commercially zoned area between the hours of midnight and 5 AM worthy of a $125 fine.

In case you want to read the text of the ordinance, it’s number 123369:

I’m looking forward to this. I live within shouting distance of Clever Dunne’s and I’m awakened at 2 AM by people whooping or revving motorcycles roughly every other night. It’s not a big deal, I did choose to live next to a bar, but I think this law is well conceived.

What about the slaughter house noise coming from the doggie day care that goes on and off all day and into the night. Hordes of dogs barking alarmingly. Help! Help! Help! all day long. I wish I could move. Little yelp helps big deep dark yelps. These are not happy dog sounds. They should have to contain that awful noise.

running around in masks claiming to “fight crime” — by burning a homeless bum here & there?

Is that obnoxious?

I’m as weirded out as any by “amateur superheroes” but if you have a story, say it. Otherwise shut up.

After reading this article, I was trying to imagine cops busting dance floor weary, overly chatty R-Place and Neighbours patrons for talking to loudly on their way back to their homes. I tried to imagine the drunken concert goers, high water trowser-ed indie types and well … the hungry and intoxicated masses in general making too much noise while ordering their street hotdogs outside of Neumos and The Comet. Them being tossed to the sidewalk, cuffed and then booted to the refrain, “We will stomp the androgynous piss out of you girlfriend.” I know the meatheads are up here and more over the meatheads do come up here… I just hope the training is taught with some sensitivity to the Cap Hill locals. I mean really.
