Happy Valentines Day!, originally uploaded by ERIK98122.
But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east and CHS food + drink notes is the sun. Send us a tip [email protected]
Love,
The Brady Bunch
- Chao Bistro, apparently, will now/soon be Ban Chan. First note we saw was from this random CHS calendar listing. We’ve seen others indicating the new concept will be a sake bar and that there is new ownership. Haven’t seen any documents confirming new owners, yet, however. We documented the original ownership’s interesting pedigree here.
- We visited Kanape (sorry, too lazy for the accent) for their grand opening.
- And SugarPill apothecary and mercantile for their first days of biz on the Hill.
- Hill restaurateur Eric Banh started advertising on CHS recently and we’ve become his favorite outlet for announcing new stuff. Here are his big plans for next week at Baguette Box and Monsoon:
I would like to launch this campaign with customer appreciation, FREE house made potato chips with any sandwich purchase. This promo will commence on a ‘love’ day February 21st.
Why this day? It’s Monsoon’s 12th birthday on the hill. Of course, with this anniversary celebration; all friends and customers will enjoy a complementary glass of bubble at lunch or dinner.
Moreover, Monsoon’s famous crispy local drunken chicken or caramelized Idaho catfish claypot will be at $12.
Happy lunar new year,
Eric Banh
- Seattle Met points out that Marjorie now has a happy hour.
- The Stranger visits Pau Hana.
- We knew the whole Peter O’Toole thing at Grim’s last week couldn’t end well. Like we said, at least it was for a good cause.
- What bars and restaurants served up the most “last drinks” before somebody was busted for DUI in Seattle in 2010? SeattleCrime has a list. No Capitol Hill establishments cracked the top 15.
- Seattle Weekly finally makes it to Eltana Bagels, likes it.
- Cap to the Hill wonders who the people are sitting at the bar in the Crescent, asks, blogs about it. Last time I tried that “I’m a blogger” line, I got socked in the nose. Careful, C to the H.
- You are elite. Capitol Hill one of eight Seattle neighborhoods on Parfait ice cream delivery roster. Central District, I’d just say I was Capitol Hill if I were you.
eric is an awesome guy. you can tell how passionate he is about his food. just ask him about the tofu he gets for the tofu+avocado sandwich – or the truffle oil used on the fries – his eyes light up. great guy.
I don’t care what you do to Chao as long as that delicious french toast is still available for late brunch on the weekends. Without that… I don’t know what I’d do.
Also get some new drafts tia.
ban chan means “side dish” in korean. so, im hoping that this will be a korean/korean fusion bar (serving soju). otherwise, they should consider changing their name. we need something more than just sushi, teriyaki and thai on the hill.
So glad Chau is going under. I don’t go to a restaurant to have a choice between sushi, thai and burgers, all of which was bad. To add obnoxious big screens tuned to the sports channel was also a bad choice. All I wanted was a good neighborhood Chinese restaurant on the hill. Is that too much to ask for?
