Pledge drive launched to help build Three Wings queer youth community space

A group’s effort to create a queer youth community space on Capitol Hill is looking for a financial boost this month. Queer Youth Space has started a pledge drive to raise $10,000 to put toward deposit and rent for their planned location for their Three Wings center:

Last summer, our community said “YES!” to queer youth space, and the city funded us with $100,000.

This big, beautiful grant only works through reimbursement. That means we have to have money to get money. In these cold and rainy months, we’ve been hunting all over Capitol Hill for the right place to call home and we may have found what we have been searching for. But we can’t move forward without you! Before we can sign a lease, we need money in hand for our deposit and first month’s rent. It’s our money, help us bill the city!

The money to create the space will come from a grant provided by the Department of Neighborhood’s Large Projects Fund. The matching fund program, which requires awarded groups to match the grant value with volunteer work, has funded many Hill projects including recent work done at the Polish Home.

QYS has not yet publicly announced the location of their Three Wings center. You can read more about their plans for the space at http://threewings.org/
