This week, City Arts Magazine hosted the spring Art Walk Awards at Fred Wildlife Refuge on Capitol Hill, and they chose 6 finalists, one of who was about to be $1000 richer and appear in an upcoming issue of City Arts.

The party was packed and featured one piece of art by each of the artists on exhibit that evening.  Voting was done by the attendees, and each guest received a chip to vote, plus an extra chip each time they had a Blue Moon beer.

After much dubbing and pounding of bass, drinking of beer and dancing to such favorites as Rolls Royce’s Car Wash, the winner was chosen by popular vote:  Artist Jesse Higman. 

Higman is a Capitol Hill artist who recently had a show at Vermillion Gallery, and who has been featured on Seattle Twist and Evening Magazine.

The next Capitol Hill Arts Walk will be May 12th. 

About the Art Walk Awards: In 2011, four winners will each receive $1,000 and a profile of their artwork in City Arts magazine. Together with our 2011 partners, the Art Walk Consortium, businesses and galleries that participate in neighborhood art walks can nominate a favorite piece of art for each month.  Each spring, summer, winter and fall, we narrow dozens of submissions down to six finalists, and then throw a party in their honor (with delicious and free Blue Moon seasonal beers, music, food and more).  Anyone attending the event gets to vote for the winner and we’ll hand out the award that night.
