Feds hold interviews on SPD misconduct, get video of Broadway Dick’s Drive-In confrontation

Federal investigators are asking for people who believe they have been mistreated by Seattle police to come forward this week for interviews and a community meeting scheduled to gather evidence in an ongoing civil rights investigation. Meanwhile, KIRO has acquired video from one man who came forward to speak with investigators about video he shot of a January confrontation between a SPD officer and a woman at Broadway’s Dick’s Drive-In.

Here are the details on the hearings. Note the requirement to schedule appearances in advance of the Thursday and Saturday sessions held at 16th Ave S’s El Centro de la Raza.

Meanwhile, KIRO has posted phone video footage of a January confrontation on Capitol Hill in which a SPD officer threatens the Native American man shooting the video. “Do something about it. Just flag me down when we’re alone in an alley, man,” the officer can be heard saying. You can listen to the unedited exchange here.

John T. Williams, the man killed by Ian Birk in an act that sparked outrage against SPD, was a Capitol Hill regular and frequenter of the hang-out area around Dick’s in an area known for its problems with panhandling, occasional fights and police activity.
