Mugging near Convention Center sends man to hospital -- Woman scares off gunman on First Hill

Two items of note for the East Precinct on SPD's blotter this morning.

First, Seattle Police are reporting an early Friday morning robbery on Pine near the Convention Center:

On July 1st, at approximately 12:30 AM, East Precinct officers responded to Swedish Hospital to take a robbery report from a victim.  The victim stated that he had been walking on the street near the Convention Center overpass in the 700 Block of Pine Street when he was confronted by an unknown suspect who struck him in the head with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground.  The victim stated he did not see the suspect coming at him prior to the assault.

While the victim was on the ground, the suspect demanded his property, and the victim handed over his wallet.  The suspect fled the area on foot and was last seen heading southbound on 7th Avenue.  The vicitm did not report the incident until he got to the hospital.  Officers conducted an area check, but because of the time delay, were unable to locate the suspect.  The suspect is described as a black male, medium height and build, dark skin, wearing a black ski mask, black t shirt, and jeans.

Last week, a woman reported she was knocked out and robbed late at night on E Pine as she was walking from a bar in the area.

Meanwhile, late Thursday night, a woman told police she was jumped by a man armed with a handgun in the 1400 block of Madison near Broadway but her screams drove the man to run away:

On June 30th, at approximately 11:30 PM, East Precinct officers responded to a report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred in the 1400 Block of Madison Street.   The victim called 911 to report that she had just been accosted by an unknown suspect as she was walking to her car.  The suspect had appeared from the stairwell leading down to an alley behind a business and immediately displayed a handgun.  The victim started screaming, and the suspect fled before he took anything from the victim.

Officers responded immediately and conducted an area search, including a K9 track, but did not locate the suspect.  The victim was not injured.  The suspect was described as a white male in his 20s, wearing a bright blue hooded sweatshirt, armed with a gun.
