First Hill restaurant suffers second break-in this month

A First Hill restaurant owner says his place was broken into for the second time this month after police found a big hole busted through one of his windows and an emptied cash register on the floor earlier this week.

The break-in was discovered early Monday morning at the unnamed restaurant in the 1300 block of Madison after a caller reported seeing the busted window, according to the SPD report on the incident. Inside, police found a concrete slab that had been used to break the window and a busted open cash register on the ground with the cash drawer removed.

The owner told police that the thief took about $300 from a separate cash box in the business but left behind electronics including two laptops and two iPads.

The owner also said he suffered a break-in on the 4th of July weekend in which a burglar made off with another $300 in cash. In that incident, the owner said an employee left the door of the business unlocked and that he had been too busy to report the crime to police.
