Man in wheelchair says mugged of grocery bag in Volunteer Park

A man in a motorized wheelchair says he was hit in the back of the head and mugged on a path inside Volunteer Park last Thursday night.

The man told police he was on a path inside the park around 9:15p when he heard a voice behind him say “I got it” and then felt a blow to the back of the head as the grocery bag the man was carrying was snatched. The man said he could see his attacker walking away from him down the trail carrying the white plastic bag filled with what the man said were personal hygiene items, according to the report.

The victim traveled to the Broadway Market QFC and contacted store security who then contacted police. He said he saw stars after being hit but Seattle Fire determined that the man was not seriously injured.

The man told police his attacker was wearing jeans and white Converse high-tops but no further details are provided in the report.

WTF? Sounds like the guy wasn’t hurt but what kind of jerk steals a bag of groceries from someone in a wheelchair (or anyone, really)?

I’ve added a little bit more info from Seattle Fire regarding any injuries. Summary: not hurt, but, yeah, screwed up if it played out as described
