One man’s Sunday brunch at the Broadway Grill ended badly — and another’s ended worse — in this report from the East Precinct.
According to the SPD report, an officer was driving on Broadway last Sunday afternoon when she heard what sounded like a breaking plate and saw a man running from the Broadway Grill and a waiter pointing at the running man.
The officer followed the man onto E Harrison in her cruiser with her lights flashing. Tiring of the chase, she told the suspect to stop. “I turned on my PA and told S/ to stop, that he wasn’t going to outrun my patrol car, and that he was committing a felony by running,” the officer wrote in the report.
The suspect gave himself up and the officer was able to return to the restaurant to learn more about what had happened.
Inside, the officer found a man covered in food. According to the victim, the incident began with a snide remark from the suspect:
V/ run into each other fairly frequently since live both live in the area. Today V/ and S/ were at Broadway Grill at separate tables. S/ made a snide remark to V/ who replied with “Fuck You!”. S/ took his plate of food and threw it on V/ . V/ was not injured but he was covered in food. S/ ran from the without paying for his meal valued at $14.95.
The victim told the officer that he had been friends with the suspect “about a year ago” but the friendship ended badly. The victim told the officer they had not been in a relationship.
The suspect was booked into jail for investigation of assault with a weapon, theft of services and obstruction.
That brunch better be good.
Apparently these bitchy queens have watched too many episodes of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
Draaaamaaaaa!
Gurrl, what happened to the good ole days when the best way to show disdain was to shun the biotch! (Thanks for lightening the mood today, CHS!)
I assume they are referring to the plate as a weapon? Seems pretty ridiculous its not like he smashed the plate over his head he threw a plate of food. I’m not saying its right what this guy did but I wouldn’t considering a plate of brunch a weapon.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl!
Generally, any object that one uses to assault someone is considered a weapon.
The victims are the people who continually go back to this place for brunch/lunch/dinner.
they’re pursuing charges for theft of services for their buffet brunch? I’m not impressed.
Best they should be able to get out of “suspect” is an encounter with an anger management class. Hell, that’d probably be good for all of us these days.
Condolences to the staff. I was there earlier in the afternoon (apparently) and their chef also walked out that day. What a mess. You all deserve hugs and Yogurtland.
Lol um the restaurant is not pressing charges. The cop was across the street and was waved down by the server. I believe the city or possibly the other person is pressing charges. I mean how would you feel if someone did that to you in the middle of a sunday morning brunch in a packed restaurant? I was there and it had nothing to do with the restaurant it just happened there, the entire room went silent…it actually was kinda scary that someone would do that!
Smaller portions and a remodeled interior reminiscent of a reject “Dynasty” set accompanied by thumping club music probably contributed to the poisonous atmosphere!
10.50 at Purr, incl mimosa, good menu. Much better.
The new decor is simply gross, not just tacky and weird, but gross. And even more gross after three drinks. It reaches a form of good world gone bad.
The menu is a shell of the old place.
Matt, let me guess…you watch a lot of “Housewives…” right?
Agreed. This craphole sponsored my softball team and I hate going there. The food sucks and is expensive, and the owner is a complete biznatch. Ugh.
On the splash page of your website you spell your neighborhood Capital Hill.
Sounds like you have bigger fish to fry, but that would be an easy fix.
It shocks me that people continue to eat here..
It looks like, by splash page, you mean Q13 :)

a $14.95 bill for brunch is what stands out to you as expensive? get a job you cheap ass.
…And the never ending Capital/Capitol mistake soldiers on.
Pho $5-6
Burrito $5-6
Burger $6-9
Japanese $6-9
Mexican/Indian/Thai buffet <$10 $14.95 is on the high side. Need to be serving something special.
Yeah, I was in my condo on Boylston and Harrison and heard the police on the megaphone, what a moron to “dump and dash”! Say what you will regarding Broadway Grill past. The new owners of the Grill have taken it a long way. The last year many things have changed and I see it all as positive. The food and decor are much improved, have had some excellent meals, their new chef is awesome!!! $14.95 for brunch is way well worth it.
Now i’ve heard of pump&dumps on craigslist, and I got my first Huffy at the Seattle Dump, but a dump&dash at the Grill is a new one. Could it be a pump & dump & dash? wait… isn’t that song? Oh no, that’s “The DumpTruck Song” by Larry Groce. :)
It’s the only bfast buffet I know of on the hill. Not bad.
That doesn’t make sense. What if it was a feather?
