Big Mario’s launches delivery, brings pull tabs to Pike/Pine

In some parts of the world, it’s not news when a pizza joint delivers and adds a legendary game of skill chance to its offerings. On Capitol Hill, where we sometimes struggle to keep ahold of what truly matters and are rapidly drifting away from the times when things were meaningful and music meant something, we must celebrate any attempt to hold onto our true Western Washington culture. Big Mario’s starts delivery on Monday. And we’ll be damned if they haven’t also gotten licensed for pull-tab gaming. More info on the Mario delivery — and a crazy gimmick — plus a roster of other Hill pizza delivery providers, below.

Seattle’s Best New York Pizza Now Delivers

Starting Monday September 19th, Big Mario’s New York Style Pizza will start delivering our awesome New York Style thin crust pizza from 11am to 10pm daily. The delivery area covers Aloha to Yesler and Melrose to 24th Ave on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. (check out www.bigmariosnewyorkstylepizza.com for a map)

Big Mario Actually Delivers!

Every Thursday evening, delivery customers will have the chance to meet the Big man himself, as Big Mario will be delivering pizza in person in our new Big Mario’s Pizza 1970 El Camino Super Sport.

Coin Toss for Pizza

For the first month of delivery, before our drivers collect payment from the customer, they will flip a Mario’s coin the customer will call in the air, if the customer wins the toss the food is free, if they lose then it’s the regular normal cost (limited winners per night).

But you need to sound more concerned and ask a committee be formed. In passive voice of course.

Also, Mario’s is awesome. Mario’s delivering is beyond awesome.

I am very excited about Big Mario’s starting delivery, but don’t forget that Piecora’s also delivers!

True, but Big Mario’s pizza blows away Piecora’s pizza. I don’t know what happened to Piecora’s in the last couple of years, but their pizza is totally tasteless now (in my totally subjective opinion, of course).

Updated. I will admit that I did not know they delivered.

Having to interact with the hirsute assholes that work there has put me off this place for good. After too many requests being ignored and too many pizzas served to me with an employee’s thumb holding them to the paper picnic plate on which they’re served, I can firmly say that I will never eat another dried out slice of their crap again. There are so many good pizza places in Capitol Hill, and since I’m not an alcoholic or a hygiene-phobic hipster street creep, I’d just as soon go somewhere that features real food served by respectable people.

Make sure to tip well, the owner is a conservative douchebag (as evidenced by the gigantic spewing car in a pedestrian corridor full of bike delivery).

He recently threatened to cut his employees’ pay if the city made him provide sick benefits. The city just passed the sick time law, so sorry workers.

That’s a complete falsehood. I am one of the owners, and helped write the final sick days ordinance that ended up passing this week. Have you read any of the press about it? There is a pizza place on the hill that holds parties for Republican candidates, but it’s definitely not Big Mario’s, which by the way, pays much better than those other pizza places too.

Excellent. That leaves more pizza for me. Oh no, a thumb touched your pizza! I guess you’ve never used a public restroom, or left your house without your hazmat suit on.

JimS.

oh heavens, a thumb. Please.
You’ve had dirtier things in your mouth.
And I’ll bet recently, too.

JimS.

And they don’t serve pizza, either.
Unless somebody has figured out a way to deep-fry pizza.

Obviously I was talking about you.

Your conservative activism is very public, or do I need to also link to your screeds about fining panhandlers, against the income tax on the rich, for smoking and slot machines in bars?

Z pizza on broadway delivers on a bike to most areas of Capitol Hil, it’s tasty too!

Note to self: Whenever “Raki” says something, assume that the exact opposite is true.

Note that your Stranger article was dated May 24, before the preliminary ordinance was even introduced. And Meinert says he helped write the FINAL ordinance which just passed. Do you think maybe a few things might have changed between May and now?

Cary N.

What Meinert means to say is that he’s one of the people who forced the city to water down the sick leave ordinance.

From this quote it doesn’t sound like you’re exactly a generous owner:

“If the city mandates this benefit, I can’t offer my employees the benefits they want,” Meinert continues. “If my employee costs go up, some other cost must go down.”

JimS.

Do people seriously choose to work in a pizza place as a long-term career path? Don’t you think most people working somewhere like this, or similar, go into it already knowing the job doesn’t come with substantial benefits like sick leave, 401k, etc. that other jobs can offer? I am definitely the opposite of a right-wing, Republican, “all business all the time” sort, but even I can see that most small businesses like this can’t afford to pay big benefits due to their scale. Why are people surprised at that?

Yup, more shitty food, served by filthy imbeciles for the shit eating hipster douchebags to suck down with their PBR. I guess it’s not for me to complain. You’re right. Enjoy huffing the body odor of the clientele while eating sub standard shit. Enjoy the pull tabs too. What a class outfit.

Cry me a fucking river. If you don’t like it, don’t go. There are many places around here that aren’t my cup of tea. However, I don’t feel the need to rage-whine about them on the internetz. I’m pretty sure somewhere else within a few blocks will be able to accommodate your pizza needs. It is not the end of the world, Franklin.

– Pags doesn’t deliver to about 1/3 of the area Mario’s will be serving (19th to 24th, Union to Yesler). I don’t believe that they are too eager to get into the area either. They have been using the excuse that ‘it’s really hard to find a suitable location in the area’ for years. I don’t believe there is much truth to that given the amount of available retail space in the area along with all of the other neighborhoods they have expanded to.

Hot Mamas is always hot when delivered, which is why they have all of the other hill pizza places beat (i’m lookin at you Pag and Piecoras – Zaw you get a pass). When we remodeled our kitchen we ate an embarrassing amount of Hot Mamas, to the point where they knew our order and the delivery guy made fun of us for leaving our Christmas wreath up through February. I like to think of it as the charming cheap hipster place :) Also – huge props to them for their ability to feed and control the drunk masses, I’m always crazy impressed at their generally amicable attitude while dealing out slices to drunks at 2am.

If you like your dough made by a machine and your sauce out of a can, you’re correct.
