- The Volunteer Park Conservatory will be lit in full LED splendor this holiday season — and beyond. Holiday open house and lighting party is Friday, December 2 from 5-8p:

To celebrate the centennial anniversary in 2012 of the Volunteer Park Conservatory, the Friends of the Conservatory have sponsored the installation of energy-efficient lighting which will frame the Conservatory and remain installed through 2012.
The Volunteer Park Conservatory was first opened in 1912 and has welcomed up 90,000 visitors per year. The Conservatory was lit in this fashion for the Conservatory’s 75th anniversary in 1987. The new lighting system consists of energy-efficient LED bulbs, and will remain installed throughout 2012.
We will be hosting a Holiday Open House the same evening – so come by, have some refreshments, do a little shopping and listen to the soothing sounds of live harp music performed by Harpist Bill McJohn!

- Next week you can help support the Miller Community Garden and the Just Garden Project that builds raised beds and provides gardening supplies for low-income families King County. Here’s the note we received from Elizabeth Archer who heads up the Miller garden:
We’re doing a Secret Cafe dinner, five courses, with ingredients donated from local businesses. Everything will be cooked and served by volunteers in a cozy house in the Madrona neighborhood, and we will accommodate meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans will equally delicious and seasonal food. Wine and beer will flow freely (first drink’s free!) and there will be other elements to make the evening highly entertaining. We’re really excited to get to throw such a fun event – if only this could be a day job.
