World AIDS Day: The Sisters’ Walking Wake, free film at the Egyptian… and pancakes

World AIDS Day is Thursday and the observance brings events both solemn and breakfast-y to Capitol Hill and nearby. But even when it comes to a pancake breakfast, there’s an important message — “the story’s not over.”

  • The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence gather Thursday night at Broadway and John to parade through Capitol Hill in remembrance and celebration in their annual Walking Wake.

  • Thursday night you can also catch a free screening of Still Around, a compilation of short films “about thriving while living with HIV.” You can view clips and learn more about the film here. Screening starts at 7p at the Egyptian at Broadway and Pine.
  • Start your morning with a full tummy at the World AIDS Day Breakfast benefit held down the Hill at the Washington Convention Center starting at 7:30a.
  • On Friday and Saturday at the Erickson Theatre, CHS advertiser Gay City Health presents The Infection Monologues:

Called a “powerful, timely, and well acted piece that undoubtedly benefits the gay community” by Seattle Gay Scene, and “funny and thought provoking” by the Seattle Gay News, The Infection Monologues is a touching, humorous, and ground breaking narrative on living with HIV more than thirty years into the epidemic. Written by Eric Rofes and Alex Garner, and first performed in San Francisco in 2005, the original script was significantly modified and expanded, with new characters added by local queer writers Vincent Kovar, Chad Goller-Sojourner, and Cole Arden Peake, and a new artistic vision from local queer director Manny Cawaling.

Seattle’s very own Mardi Gras krewe, Les Faeries Vertes ( http://www.lesfaeriesvertes.org), will also be putting on a fundraiser event on World AIDS Day evening from 6 – 9pm at The Lobby Bar to benefit the Seattle Area Support Groups (SASG) [formerly Dunshee House] and the decades of support they have provided to those with HIV/AIDS.

Our event is called “Elect the Elixir” ( http://www.lesfaeriesvertes.org/2011/11/elect-elixir-dec-1-2 or http://www.facebook.com/events/253294421387221/) and for the suggested donation of $16 per person, you will get to sample 3 drinks concocted by the mixologists at The Lobby Bar and vote for your favorite to be the featured drink at our Mardi Gras Ball fundraiser event on Feb 18th, 2012 which will also benefit SASG!

We will be also selling raffle tickets for the opportunity to win a fresh tree all pre-decorated in Mardi Gras themed regalia that is currently on display at The Lobby Bar.

Proceeds from the entry donation and raffle ticket sales will go to benefit SASG and their HIV/AIDS support work, so join us on Thursday Dec 1st from 6 – 9pm at The Lobby Bar!
