Bellevue, you are not a neighborhood and Capitol Hill is coming for you, bitches

So, we’re a little late on this one but we’ve got them right where we want them. CHS advertiser Umpqua Bank — Portland-based, small regional chain, not Chase — has been holding a neighborhood contest across Seattle and Capitol Hill, frankly, is getting our ass handed to us by the likes of Roosevelt. Now, it’s a little difficult for us to take a contest seriously that lists Bellevue as a “neighborhood” but whatever — at stake there’s potentially some more resources for a neighborhood project and possibly even some love for a Capitol HIll business or two.

Here’s what you can do to help if you want — and you don’t even have to give up your Facebook “privacy” to get involved if you don’t want to.

  • Before December 15th, visit the Umpqua at 539 Broadway E and write a brief love note about your favorite neighborhood business (not CHS — we can’t play) or…
  • Before December 15th, text “CAPHILL ” to 99158 like this… “CAPHILL THE EAGLE”

Umpqua says the totals will be tallied thusly:

The three neighborhoods with the most ♥s win $10,000 for a community project.

The 10 businesses with the most ♥s win $1,000 to help make their business better.

You can also vote via Facebook. Details and standings here http://www.umpquabank.com/weheart/

“Bellevue, you are not a neighborhood and Capitol Hill is coming for you, bitches”

This is the best headline ever on this site.

I’ve been watching the number all month and frankly what does Magnolia and Queen Anne need in comparison to Capitol Hill. The $10K could go to the new 12th Ave Arts building and so much more. Please support this cause. Its easy and the money goes right back into our neighborhood!

They also think South Lake Union is a neighborhood.

This race is also known as “fuck South Seattle”.

If you do vote via the Facebook app your vote counts double, and there is no limit to how many times you vote for a business.

I think if you text or vote in person the limit is 5 votes per business per week. There is no fee charged for the text vote, other than what your mobile carrier charges you for text messages.

On the Facebook app Bellevue, Magnolia and Queen Anne are out voting Capitol Hill by some 20 pages.

We should select a neighborhood business to push votes to, to increase it’s chance if winning. I was thinking of Emerald City Aikido but I’m own to other suggestions.

Only capital hill would be pretentious enough to claim that Bellevue is not a neighborhood.

A city can’t be a neighborhood.

LOL. The Microsoft Campus is more of a neighborhood than Bellevue.

The only thing going on in Bellevue is business parks and shopping strips and malls. People don’t “hang out” there, they come in, work or shop, and get out. It has amenities instead of locals. The infrastructure is all about driving to and quickly away from the area, not walking and experiencing the area. Most sterile, lifeless place I’ve ever visited, especially around 6 when all the Microsoft and other tech workers go home to the real neighborhoods where they live. The only good thing about Bellevue is that amazing King County library branch downtown…love that library.

ps – what are you doing on the CH blog, shouldn’t you be on Bellevue’s awesome neighborhood blog? oh wait… hehe.
