Harvard homicide investigation continues

Authorities have not yet identified the man found dying on a Harvard Ave sidewalk after being shot in the chest late Tuesday night behind Seattle Central Community College’s Capitol Hill campus.

In the Tuesday night homicide, police were called to the 1700 block of Harvard Ave at 11:16p following several reports of gunfire in the area. They found a man in his 40s down on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medics were called but the man had died before they could arrive

We’re awaiting an identification from the King County Medical Examiner following notification of the victim’s family. At this point, SPD won’t say whether the man was a Capitol Hill resident and detectives have not yet made public what they know about any signs of a robbery. A botched hold-up left a Capitol Hill man shot in the stomach only a few blocks away in October.

Homicide detectives continue to search for new information and the vehicle seen by witnesses as it left the scene. If you have information about the car —  a white Crown Victoria, with a wood or dark brown interior and that looked like an “old style” police cruiser — or saw something in the area that night, contact the Seattle Police Homicide Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. SPD says anonymous tips are welcome.

The death was the first murder on Capitol Hill in 2012 and the third confirmed homicide in the city this year.

I want to know who the victim was, and what led up to this.

Has the snowstorm blanked everyone’s concern for neighborhood crime safety? A man is murdered four days ago and there are still no details of his identity or the circumstances of the murder? Why the conflicting details on the potential shooter’s vehicle if there’s a witness who gave a description to the police? Did the victim and shooter know each other? Was this a drug deal gone bad, or a robbery/murder of an innocent citizen?

I’m with you curious. I’m concerned with this murder but also concerned with the snowstorm that hit this week.

I spoke to someone on the bus about this and she also wanted to know more details.

A man shot and killed 4 days ago and nothing about his history or why he was killed. It will cost you $55.25 to get a permit that allows defending your life. 4 days and nothing from the police. Crap.

My partner was out with our dog at the time, on Harvard near Denny, and also saw the white car speed off Northbound on Harvard, before turning on Olive. While she couldn’t be certain of the make, she thought it was a KIA, and included that in her account to police.

This happened over a week ago and very little information has been shared. The college sent out notification to employees just today (a week old). I can’t imagine this is as much a mystery as it seems? How careful do I need to be as a local citizen? Comment by Cit deserves some discussion. Should we all be packing heat???
