Fallen tree, power pole block 10th Ave E — UPDATE

(Image: CHS)

35 mph winds that followed a week of snow and ice have helped topple a utility pole on Capitol Hill’s 10th Ave E just south of E Blaine. Seattle City Light reports the problem as “tree” on its system status Web site.

CHS could not get close enough to the tilting pole to see exactly what brought the pole down.

UPDATE: CHS couldn’t but Mike Guss could. He sent in some great pictures of the scene — and the tree that laid itself down.

I forgot about your post and took the Boylston exit on the way home (around 2:30 PM). The street is still blocked and the pole still leaning on the wires. There appeared to be a number of utility vehicles and crews at work.

We live in the apt building next to the downed lines and we still don’t have power as of 7 pm.
