Trans Solidarity Speak-Out to march on Capitol Hill tonight

Activists Ocelot Stevens and Maria Arceo Gardner are organizing a “Trans Solidarity Speak-Out!” and march on Capitol Hill Friday night to protest “transphobic violence.” “Capitol Hill has always been a place where the freaks come out at night,” the invitation for the event reads. The imagery is, to say the least, provocative — but so is the topic. Here’s a recent example of a situation on the Hill where a person said they were “tranny bashed.” 36 people are currently signed up to attend, according to the invitation.

Tired of seeing your friends hurt just for being trans? Well, so are we!

Trans rights are human rights.

Capitol Hill has always been a place where the freaks come out at night.

Don’t let gentrification take that away from us!

Come join us in solidarity at 9:30pm. From there, we’ll march around Capitol Hill and speak out against transphobic violence here, reclaiming the Hill as our own! We’ll share trans-positive chants along the way and make this a place where we can all be free to be ourselves!

Love,

Trans and trans ally occupiers

Calling that poster “provocative” is an understatement, to say the least. It implies that a trans-person should carry a gun and use it if necessary. Vigilantism is not a solution to any problem.

And why the “fuck you” anger/hostility? That’s not exactly a way to get people on your side.
