Capitol Hill Fat Tuesday — Mardi Gras Pike/Pine at Havana, Rapture at Elysian

Seattle brass band TUBALUBA has a busy Fat Tuesday in store. They’ll be on Capitol Hill for part of it tonight as Mardi Gras plays out in Pike/Pine with a party at Havana and a special beer release at Elysian Capitol Hill.

If you’re planning Fat Tuesday shenanigans, let us know about the party in the comments and we’ll update the post.

Seattle Met lays out the details of Havana’s bash here. Expect Where Ya at Matt’s king cake and, of course, the marching band:

“It will start its processional at 10th and Pike, make a left turn into the Havana lot, and roll out a grand finale inside Havana.”

KEXP’s Greg Vandy hosts:

Mardi Gras! a community celebrationTuesday, February 21, 6 – 8 p.m.Bloedel Hall — This is a fabulous party for all ages with great food, mask making, the burning of the palms to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday, dancing, live music, desserts, and the making and burying of the alleluia scroll.

And, of course, Ash Wednesday services:

Ash WednesdayThe Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes

    Wednesday, February 22

    7:30 am in Thomsen Chapel
    Noon in the Cathedral Nave
7 pm in the Cathedral Nave

The Ash Wednesday Liturgy is the doorway to Lent. The liturgy is one of contrasts, beginning with sobering reflection on our mortality and our sin through the readings, homily, Litany of Penitence and imposition of ashes. But the liturgy then carries us into the abiding joy of the Eucharist, the Holy meal that celebrates and makes present anew God’s forgiveness and love.

Bishop Rickel will be at Saint Mark’s to preside and preach at the 7 pm service.

Ac an alternative, we will have someone at the QFC from 10-12 dispensing ashes, if the times at St. Mark’s are inconvenient.
