Lit on the Hill | Benefit for Hugo House writer in residence Hardy

Three months ago, Bent Writing Institute founder and current Hugo House Writer in Residence Tara Hardy found herself in an emergency room. Her platelet count was dramatically low, her blood was unable to clot, she was fatigued and her small bruises would not stop bleeding. She received an immediate transfusion of platelets and it is a great miracle she did not suffer a brain hemorrhage. Since then she has been diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura): a disease in which your platelets disappear. For the past twelve years Tara has been giving queer youth its voice: healing, strengthening and building a community of hundreds through writing and now she needs the help of her friends.

On Thursday, February 23rd, the many spoken word friends and colleagues of Hardy will be performing new uplifting work at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center with all proceeds going toward her health insurance costs.

Tickets are $15 in Advance / $20 at the door available at Brown Paper Tickets

If you are unable to make it, but still want to help, Tara’s friends have created a BOOST page where money is used directly to cover her medical costs. You can give and help keep this champion of queer youth alive and well.

I hope Tara will check out the Platelet DIsorder Support Association website, where she can learn more about this condition and be in touch with many of us who live normal lives with it. http://www.pdsa.org/
