D’Ambrosio Gelato ready to open its new Capitol Hill shop — UPDATE: Pictures

Inside the new shop Sunday night (Images: CHS)

With gelato said to be as authentic as any you’ll find in Italy, Marco D’Ambrosio tells CHS his new Capitol Hill gelateria is ready for its debut at 12th and Pine. Happy St. Patrick’s Day. We’re sure there will be something green in the case.

You can visit D’Ambrosio Gelato starting Saturday at 5p to give that authenticity a test and a taste, the owner tells us.

CHS ran into D’Ambrosio putting the final touches on the new shop at the corner of 12th and Pine Friday afternoon. We found a transformed storefront replacing the previous lounge space vacated by the departed Varro. D’Ambrosio kept the mural, by the way — but with a twist. Look for it when you check the place out.

We first told you about the plans for the second D’Ambrosio shop in Seattle in December. At the time, D’Ambrosio told us his new shop would have more space to display the cafe’s well regarded cannoli and show off their Italian cakes as well as serve panini and espresso.

We’re checking in with the new part of the Capitol Hill sweets scene on their plans for hours — they’re open seven days a week in Ballard, noon to 10p on Monday through Thursday, noon to midnight on Friday and Saturday and 10a to 10p on Sundays.

Could it be? An actual, snackerel alternative to the lackluster Molly Moon and grotesquely overpraised Cupcake Royale?

I know, right? I do love Old School Frozen Custard (currently my go-to), but I’m so excited to finally have amazing gelato!

Bryan, there’s also Bluebird Ice Cream at 12th & Pine and Yogurtland 5 blocks away on Broadway and High 5 Pie at 12th & Union, so it’s not like the area is hurting for alternatives.

Good luck to them!

When old school is your reference you don’t have much credibility in complaining about how something tastes.
