One more week without your bike polo lights, Bobby Morris

bike polo, originally uploaded by Sean Munson.

The lights have been out at Cal Anderson’s sports courts since early February and they’ll be out a little bit longer. But there is light at the end of the… did you really think we’d stoop so low? The lights should be back on next week.

Parks tells us the project passed a city inspection Thursday morning putting the system on the schedule for reconnection — *probably* next week.

The work was originally planned for a two week project to finish the summer’s overhaul of the lighting system around the park’s Bobby Morris playfield, but the project had to be extended another two weeks:

Seattle City Light is replacing the temporary power connection with a permanent connection to a new upgraded electrical cabinet. The concrete base for the new cabinet will be poured on Monday, February 27. After the contractors complete the wiring, Seattle City Light will inspect the cabinet and reconnect the lighting for the courts. This work completes the ballfield lighting project.

Parks said power to the ballfield lights at Bobby Morris is not affected. Bike polo players, dodgeballers, tennis players, court soccer kids and the rest of you should have the lights back before next weekend.

In celebration (or, really, just because we’ve been looking for an excuse to share it), check out this video of, as @LordCornSyrup said, “Different band, Different Decade, still cool. Dirtbombs in Cal Anderson Park”
