There’s still room for art on Capitol Hill. The Blindfold Gallery, a three-level collaboration between three Seattle artists in a former office space on E Olive Way, debuts Wednesday.
“Being a painter in Seattle I have had a great desire for community,” Laura Hamje told CHS in her announcement for the new venture. “Through this need for community, I met Scott Burk, owner of Burk Gallery and started a dialog about the potential for a gallery space that also encouraged people to spend time with the art in a more comfortable way.”
Burk Gallery was formerly located on 15th Ave E.
Hamje and Burk will partner with Hamje’s painting partner Sara Long on making the gallery a working — and community — space.
“Six months later, we are miraculously opening our dream space,” Hamje writes. “Two levels of gallery space, and a third level where Sara and I share studio space and will soon have small classes.”
Blindfold opens Wednesday with a grand opening slated for the following week to coincide with the monthly Capitol Hill art walk. The grand opening will feature a solo show by Kimberly Trowbridge and her new Bolted Dream series, deburing April 12th from 6-9p with refreshments including homemade beer and more. The Trowbridge show runs through May 5th.
The new gallery is next to Online Cafe at 1718 E Olive Way. Gallery hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 1-7p. You can learn more on Facebook.
