While laying out his argument for why the Bauhaus block deserves special effort to preserve its buildings, Rob Ketcherside brought up another important element of E Pine’s past.
Aside: I remember a video game arcade on that lot that was demolished but can’t remember the rest… anyone?
He was talking about the block of E Pine that now is home to the Press building. CHS Facebook friend Matthew O’Brien remembered the Hi-Score:
I was hanging out at Hi Score one of the nights that the 1999 WTO protests was going on. Tear Gas isn’t cool. I was just chilling, playing some vids when all of the sudden the police shut us down.
But, better, he still has a t-shirt.
What’s your prized Capitol Hill shirt? Maybe this one will be a collector’s item someday, too.
…I’d kept my old Cafe Paradiso shirt. I used to have a Stranger shirt from the early-90’s, too. Sigh.
one of my Cafe Septieme caffe au lait bowls. A guest broke the other one. :( I miss those little bowls of goodness. Couldn’t quite go back to Cafe Septieme after they got rid of their signature white au lait bowls.
that place was awesome
Wasn’t there a video game place between R Place and the (now) crepe place for awhile?
I still have an old Gravity Bar shirt from the 90s.
oh I miss Gravity Bar … and the RV1 with lemon tahini + a grasshopper!
oh my god! a hi-score t-shirt. i would pay, like, 50 dollars for one of those. really miss that place.
$50 for a retro t-shirt seems a bit steep, but I’ve always thought there’d be at least a few of us that would buy a KJET t-shirt at a reasonable price.
such sentimentality. Just think how much Bauhaus hoodies will be worth if and when they raze that place.
If you really want to pick up this shirt, I just put it up on E-Bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150805853
