Enough. Let’s start building. The Seattle Department of Transportation has announced the groundbreaking ceremony for the $134 million First Hill streetcar route will be next Monday at the intersection of Marion, Boylston and Broadway. Below is what the area looks like today — and what the Marion station will look like when the line is completed and ready for service in 2014:
The route will have four stops in our neck of the woods — Broadway at Terrace, Broadway at Marion, Broadway at E Pike and the currently planned final stop, Broadway at Denny.
Meanwhile, enthusiasm continues to run high for a north extension to continue the streetcar line past its currently planned terminus at Denny Way all the way to Aloha. City Council member Richard Conlin told CHS planners would be a meeting this week to discuss federal funding opportunities for the $30 million extension.
When service begins in 2014, it will mark the return of streetcars to Capitol Hill after a 70-some-year absence.
