Don’t get us wrong. We’re fine with Capitol Hill selling out. What’s important is the “highest bidder” part. An important factor in pushing for maximum investment — financial and cultural — through the years has been the Capitol Hill Community Council. A grassroots community structure can lend itself to squeaky wheel, NIMBY politics but the Council’s latest incarnation has been remarkably forward-looking and organized. Now, it’s again looking for a new batch of leaders to hold officer positions and help lead the way on efforts like the Melrose Promenade and the community process around the development of the Capitol HIll Station property and more. Hello neighbors – Just a reminder that officer elections for your Capitol Hill Community Council will be held at our July meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 19, at the Cal Anderson Shelter House from 6 to 8pm. If you would like to run for an officer position, please indicate your interest by responding to this email and including a bio and/or brief statement of candidacy (one to two paragraphs). The deadline for submission is the third Thursday of June – this coming Thursday, June 21. Once the deadline passes, all candidate bios/statements of candidacy will be assembled and posted together on the blog section of our website, emailed to our mailing list and submitted to the CHS Capitol Hill Seattle blog.
As per Article IX, Section 2D of the CHCC bylaws: “The nomination period shall close on the 3rd Thursday in May, unless the election is held in a month other than June.” Since our election will be the third Thursday in July, it made sense for the council to close the nomination period the third week in June.
…..why that would be the City Council, which you probably voted for. I really dont understand why people are against this form of progress. My dad doesn’t even recognize the area when he used to live here back in the early 70s, but he doesn’t care. New buildings means, new jobs.
If you dont like change, then by all means, move to Oldville Fearpolis.
I remember when Capitol Hill was bought by the highest bidder when I decided build my wonderful mansion there. You bindlestiffs have utterly ruined the character of the neighborhood with your “apartments” and “taverns” and “dandy cowboy dance houses”.
What jobs? Construction jobs? Then what?
