Blotter | Cops take on pancake house brawler, send him to jail, bad place for weed deal

  • IHOP belligerence: A suspect was booked into jail for assault for brawling with police at a Capitol Hill pancake house early Thursday morning but not before his actions sent him to the hospital. SPD reports officers were called to remove a drunk man picking fights with customers from the E Madison IHOP – and then this happened:

At 2:30 this morning East Precinct officers were called to the IHOP restaurant on East Madison for a report of an intoxicated man picking fights with customers.  Staff at the restaurant wanted the man removed.  Officers arrived,  contacted the man,  and escorted him outside.  Once outside in the parking lot, the 34 year old man became even more agitated,  yelling at officers and striking one of the officers in the face with his hand.  After a struggle, the officers took the man into custody. Both the suspect and officer were checked out at Harborview Medical Center before the suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.

  • Possibly a bad place for a weed deal: Three people attempting to complete a “weed deal” were cornered by a police officer in the alley behind the East Precinct headquarters at 12th and Pine early last Sunday morning. According to the report on the incident, a person had been walking in the area around 3:30a came into the precinct and told the officer on duty there were juveniles outside with sticks “preparing to fight.” The officer went outside to investigate and found at least two people trying to make a run for it from the alley behind the precinct after seeing the cop. One of the suspects ran into the officer trying to escape but the officer was able to hold onto one of the other suspects. The other suspect was taken into custody at near 11th and Pine. One of the suspects said he was carrying a large wooden stick “for protection” while another suspect said he and his counterpart had joined the third person in the alley to buy drugs. The man with the stick was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault and obstruction. No details were available about what legal ramifications the other two participants face.
  • Mystery pipe attack: A south Seattle man told police he was leaving a bar on Capitol Hill near 10th and Pike on June 6th when he was attacked for no reason by a suspect who ran up, struck him in the arm and then ran off without apparent reason. The victim reported the incident four days later and said a nurse had told him to get a police report so he would qualify for medical insurance coverage.
  • Summit cigarette heist: An early morning break-in at the Summit Foods Mart left the glass door busted and netted the burglar a bag of cigarettes.

Police found a blue crowbar inside the store and video surveillance from the store was collected.

  • Angry E Pike panhandler: Officers witnessed an assault with a screwdriver just before 1a last Sunday as a homeless woman became enraged that a man had set up to sell handmade items in a storefront entry in the 900 block of E Pike she usually sits in to panhandle. The woman was booked into jail for investigation of assault.

Need further proof? Consider the following. For about a year now, we’ve been helped in our efforts by Lt. William Edwards of the Narcotics Division. He always appeared in plain clothes, presumably due to the nature of his work. We were therefore surprised when he turned up at the March 17th MaDCAP street cleanup in a Police Uniform!

We were even more surprised when a passer by proceeded to sell some crack right next to him. Yep, sold crack next to a Police Officer in uniform!

    Say after me: “You couldn’t…………..
