SPD puts quick end to reported ‘riot’ on E Olive Way

A contingent of Seattle Police were quick to descend on a group found along E Olive Way after disturbances in this area of Capitol Hill. All information on the incident is preliminary at this time. We have received witness reports of everything from a group of black-clad individuals, to a rally to a marching band.

One business in the area reported the following going down on E Olive Way just after 10p:

cops were on the scene immediately, as 5 or so wailing cruisers were following them. Protesters shed black hoods and dispersed.

The group reportedly numbered around 12 to 15 people.

We also were told the group had been contacted by police near Bellevue and Howell. We have not heard reports of damage in the area at this time though Seattle Fire was dispatched to a location downtown to board up at least one broken window.

  1. I was right in the middle of this driving up from downtown. There were about 30-40 people in a group formation marching down the street in the westbound lane. I was driving eastbound. They were carrying some sort of banner ( didnt getba good read of it … Sad something about freeing someone) and they threw the news vending machines from in front of gaybucks into the street, which blocked traffic. Some nice, presumably decent, cap hill residents picked up the newspaper vending machines and dragged them back to the sidewalk ( glad some people care). I saw about 5 police cars converge around the group marching, and they had put flares on the road. However the police did not seem quick to engage the group and I didn’t see the police immediately disperse the group.

  2. I saw the banner they were carrying, it read “Free Marie Mason & Eric McDavid. Destroy all prisons.” Grabbed a flier they left on the windshield of a car and checked the link to june11.org — Marie Mason and Eric McDavid are political prisoners.

  3. …has a poetical flair. That’s some pretty evocative prose in the first sentence of the incident report.

  4. Anarchist logic:

Step 1: Attack beat cops in a Seattle neighborhood
    Step 2: ?????
Step 3: The federal government changes its mind and releases a serial arsonist!

  5. maybe anarchists can use some of their ample free time responding to 911 emergency reports of gunfire, assaults, burgleries, rapes, skateboard attacks, and robberies.
oh wait, if i was being attacked, raped, or shot at, i’d rather have a beat cop with a gun and balls respond.

  6. “Monday, June 11, 2012 – 6:00pm at The Cockpit, 910 E Pike (behind the Shell station off Broadway–enter through alley)”

Always wondered what went on back there (aside from it serving as a public toilet)

  7. lol. real badasses block traffic and throw newspaper cases in the street.

I wonder if these so-called anarchists even know what anarchy means.

  8. Dear “Arson,”

Eric McDavid was arrested for thought crimes, you cop. He didn’t commit an “actual crime.”

  9. Instead of lighting flares and trashing newspaper bins why don’t you do something productive. Focus on a talent and develop. These losers are a waste of space.

  10. I watched them march down Olive near Boylston. One of the marchers dropped a flare in the street in front of oncoming traffic. Not sure if he was trying to mess with traffic or not. Two police cruisers slowly followed them down the hill at that point.

  11. Oh, hum…yet another “demonstration” by unemployed losers, over a “cause” that no one else has ever even heard of. How about you move to Eugene and leave Capitol Hill alone?

  12. …the next time the kids take the streets you’re going to burst a blood vessel.

Why not find yourselves an interesting hobby to fill the time? Philately or numismatics, for example, would be much healthier in the long run than blowing a gasket each time the black clad ones make some noise.

Though I must admit you rednecks are a hoot.

  13. They do have bad food. Despite being “anarchist” who don’t need the system, they still need mommy to cook and clean their room.

  14. I heard about this on FB and went to see what it was about since I do support what they were protesting for. I simply thought it was going to be some sort of discussion meet-up. I had no idea it was going to be a march/rally (or whatever you want to call it). I’d never done something like that so I thought why not, I didn’t have any other plans that night anyways. We went from SCCC to Bellevue and Olive and where the cops broke it off and I just walked home since I live near-by. I thought it was all kind of silly. No real harm was done but I also feel like no real good was done either. We were marching about something that the audience is not even aware of in a manner that they simply find annoying and obnoxious. I didn’t really see how that helped to gain support. I feel that their hearts/minds are in the right place but they don’t really know what to do so they march for lack of options. I hope to meet up with some of them at future events to get involved in the local anarchist scene. I hope that I can share my views and help the movement grow and improve and explore more effective tactics.

  15. Protip: Seattle anarchist are the bottom of the barrel, better to use your time on something more productive, like a business degree.
