There goes the gayborhood — Tour to explore Capitol Hill’s LGBTQ history

Pride may already have passed but you can celebrate the city’s push against the Defense of Marriage Act, a new Approve 74 “Action Center” and Capitol Hill’s place in Seattle gay history with a tour this Saturday exploring the neighborhood from an LGBTQ point of view. Crusty old timers are also invited to treat the tour as a kind of trail of tears for the way things used to be. It will cost you $20 so get your money’s worth. As the LGBTQ rights movement in Seattle gained ground in the 1970s, Capitol Hill supplanted Pioneer Square as the most visible place where LGBTQ people congregated and created a community. On this tour, MOHAI’s Curt Fischer will guide you through the places of Gay Liberation, the AIDS crises and the continued fight for LGBTQ rights on Capitol Hill from the 1970s until today.

All ticket sales are final, and advanced registration is recommended. All tours are offered rain or shine, so please wear weather appropriate attire, including comfortable shoes.

Day-of tickets are subject to availability and an additional $5 charge. All day-of tickets must be purchased with a credit or debit card.
