A guide to what’s open on the Hill on Independence Day 2012

Sweet, delicious patriotism

Oh, Independence Day. The namesake of Will Smith’s greatest film. The day when it is sort of okay to light whatever you want on fire. The day it is not abnormal to lose a finger. Truly one of the most glorious days of the year.

On Capitol Hill, a lot of businesses are closing their doors to revel in the red, white, and blueness of it all. But a lot are keeping their doors open to contribute to the festivities. Here’s a handy-dandy list of businesses in the neighborhood that will be open for the holiday, along with their special hours. We tried to be as comprehensive as possible, but we’re not perfect like America is. If we forgot something, let us know in the comments. And remember that tipping is patriotic.

Have a lovely fourth, Capitol Hill. Try not to hurt yourselves while pursuing your right to life, liberty, and cheap happy hour drinks:

  1. While it’s great as a consumer to have so many places open, it’s a shame these employees can’t be out celebrating the Fourth.

  2. Perhaps many of said employees actually want to work, since these are mainly hourly wage-earners, not salaried employees, we’re talking about.

  3. God forbid poor people engage in consensual behavior to obtain goods and services. I mean, what’s a person to do when they don’t have enough of something? Clearly it isn’t help someone else to get what they want.

  4. For those who want to make something unrelated (or somewhat related) to food and drink.

    Noon-Midnight. Every Day.

  5. Most of these are food/drink jobs that people work for tips. If everyone’s off work and out eating & drinking, there are a lot of tips to be made.

  6. Linda’s is open from 4pm-2am! We’ll be posting specials on twitter and our Facebook. Happy 4th!

  7. If you hit these open businesses today, be sure to thank the workers for being there. Some of these people work all the holidays…even Christmas. Tip well and, if tips aren’t appropriate, thank them with words. It makes a difference!
