The Fetherston Gallery is saying goodbye to the Pike/Pine neighborhood with one last group exhibition Friday night at 818 E Pike. The sad news came in via e-mail from the gallery earlier this week. Meanwhile, CHS has learned of some ambitious plans for the building the gallery has called home for 15 years.
“We are moving. New location TBA later,” Betsy Fetherston tells CHS via email. “We will be virtual for a few months and reopen in new location early 2013. Rents have gone up!”
Please join us to celebrate 15 years at this location and to prepare for new adventures!
The art space debuted on E Pike in 1997 as the Ballard/Fetherston Gallery and underwent an extensive remodel in 2007 that included the name change.
The 1912 masonry building the gallery has called home was purchased in December for $2.5 million. City records filed this spring show there are some significant new plans for the space:
Substantial alterations to establish occupant load of basement level and portion of main level as assembly and restaurant and alterations to upper level of existing commercial building, per plan (use and tenant improvments will be under separate application)
We’ll check in with the new landlord to see what we can learn about the project. In the meantime, you might want to stop by to bid the gallery goodbye.
