A group of friends is working to mark the memory of artist Christopher Martin Hoff by mapping the places around Seattle where the plein air painter created his more than 200 works.
“The map is more than just images,” Shannon writes CHS. “We’d like to collect the gps data for each painting site, as well… Then people will be able to look at the map on their smart phone, their current location will be at the center of the map and see the spots where Christopher painted around them… Christopher didn’t keep a map of his sites. With over 200 paintings in his portfolio and 15 years of working in the streets of Seattle this is a major undertaking.”
Martin Hoff died earlier this year. He was 36. Often seen painting around Capitol Hill, CHS interviewed the artist about his work in April 2010. We re-ran the interview in March following his death.
“We need your help to make it all lasting testament to all the days Christopher spent painting the Seattle that surrounds us,” Shannon writes about the new project. Details on how to help are below. You can view many of Martin Hoff’s works at christopherhoff.com/#works
Help map Christopher Martin Hoff’s painting sites
We are collecting photos of Christopher painting on-site and creating a gps map of his painting sites for his website. How to help:1. Stand in the spot where you’ve seen Christopher painting.2. Enable the GPS on your smart phone or camera.3. Take a photo in the direction of subject of the painting.4. Email the photo to CMHmap@gmail.com with a shortdescription and the closest intersection. Photos ofChristopher working on-site would be appreciated, as well.
I was so saddened to hear the news that he was gone. This is a very sweet way to honor him. I remember seeing him in sevearl locations and will send you the photos soon. He was talented and will be missed.
He was a great asset to the neighborhood. Does anyone know if Christopher’s works are for sale? If so, how and where can folks purchase them?
I was not able to attend Bumbershoot this year and the only reason I was upset was because I really wanted to see the exhibit of Christopher Hoff’s paintings. Someone told me that there is a gallery showing his work in Seattle but I can’t locate it. Do you, by chance, know if there is a current showing of his work? I really would appreciate it.
