Capitol Hill Cyber Monday 2012 — Open Thread

Last week, CHS worked with local merchants and the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce for the annual Shop the Hill “Black Friday” promotion highlighting deals and local businesses as the holiday shopping season kicks into motion. The big box blitz continues this week with “Cyber Monday” but there’s no reason to stop thinking local. Most merchants are just as active online these days as they are in their Capitol Hill shops. Remedy Teas, for example, just celebrated six years on Capitol Hill. Its online tea shop is a critical component of its business. Elliott Bay Book Co., the biggest and, perhaps, spiritually most important independent retailer on the Hill, wouldn’t say exactly what percentage of its sales come online the last time we asked but maintains a robust ecommerce site that rivals bigger players right down to things like affiliate programs. You can shop smaller entities like Ada’s Technical Books online, too.

There is also the growing wave of hobby/startup/just for kicks shops on sites like Etsy created by Capitol Hill area entrepreneurs, artists, crafters, etc.

Let us know about your favorite Etsy shops and ecommerce sites below for the Capitol Hill Cyber Monday community roster. Make sure to paste in the URL and tell us what the Capitol Hill connection is.

Here’s one example offered up to us via Facebook this morning:

Been getting some decent sales, overall. Here’s my ebay store, “Back to the Vintage” I mostly sell vintage clothing and t-shirts. Lots of vintage Seattle stuff, t-shirts and the like. I live in the U-District now, but have lived on the Hill many times over the 20 years I’ve lived in Seattle. http://stores.ebay.com/Back-To-The-Vintage/_i.html?_nkw=seat

Thanks, CHS, for featuring my Etsy shop!! I’m a Capitol Hill born and raised jeweler who went through the (now defunct) jewelry program at the School of Art at UW, and I now make and sell my work through my own studio here in Seattle. I specialize in custom wedding and commitment rings and also ready-to-wear pieces of all kinds. You can see my work in person downtown at Facere Jewelry Art Gallery or visit my Etsy shop for an even larger selection. I love custom work so don’t hesitate to get in touch for that special piece!
