The lake there is gargantuan. Somebody needs to notify Google Maps, the USGS and some hydrological engineers.
Also a report of a large tree branch in the street about 30 minutes ago at 17th and Thomas.
I’m going to go out on a limb of the crazy tree here, but go out with a rake and unclog the drain. I did it every winter when I lived in that apartment building. With all the junk in the garage, there’s usually something with which you can unclog the drain. It only takes a second.
I just came from Broadway Market area…and it’s pathetic how few homeowners in the area East of Broadway bother to rake their leaves, or clear the sewer drains. No wonder it floods. For chrissakes, people…show some pride in your neighborhood. In my neighborhood, people 2 and 3 houses away from the corners go and clear the drains to help out. In back of Broadway, it seems the status quo is to just step over things, even in front of your own house. (and yes, I’m talking to YOU people on Republican, you lazy P’sOS!)
I’m sensing a bit of anger, Jim ;)
It really is amazing how few people clean up in front of their house. It only takes a second.
That lake showed up during the rains over the weekend, and I actually went out and tried to do something about it (I live a few doors away). But the trouble is that there’s a low spot there with no drain that I can find, and the drainage down the gutter to the nearest drain (which is in front of the pub) is blocked by leaves which themselves are blocked by car tires. I tried to pull some of those out but it’s really hard to do unless you’re willing to bash the cars with your tools, which I’m not, or get down on your knees in the water and do it with your hands. The only way to really solve the problem is to move the cars and then shovel the leaves… which either requires towing the cars, or waiting for each one to depart and then rushing in and cleaning the space before somebody else parks. And since people often park for days (and often don’t live in the immediate area), I could spend my entire weekend hanging out there without actually finishing the job.
