Home over the years to startups and photographers, 911 E Pike’s Suite 208 has been transformed into Threewings, a community center for the Queer Youth Space organization. QYS celebrates the grand opening of the new center this week with a feast and workshops. The center will be available for drop-in activities and will host events, conferences, and programs for queer youth. In August as the new E Pike facility was previewed, CHS talked with organizers about their multi-year search for a home for the project. We’ve covered the grants and efforts to answer the “We need queer youth space!” call over the year. Congratulations to QYS for making the hopes a reality.

November 20th, 2012, Seattle, WA – THREEWINGS is pleased to announce the long-awaited grand opening of its -led cultural arts center, located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle.  During the week of November 26, THREEWINGS will be hosting numerous events at its newly-completed home at 911 E Pike Street, beginning with a turkey dinner on Monday and culminating in a free all-ages dance party on Saturday and a community organizing workshop on Sunday.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Wednesday, 11/28 – Radical Literature Day (6-8pm)
Thursday, 11/29 – Relationships Discussion Group (w/NW Network) (4-6pm)

Saturday, 12/1 – WE HAVE DANCE (8 -11pm)
Sunday, 12/2 – Speaking Out Skillshare Workshop (3-5pm)

THREEWINGS acquired the that would become the center in early 2012.  This acquisition was a major goal of THREEWINGS’ We Need campaign, a -led community initiative to create affirming and accessible for in Seattle initiated in early 2010.  THREEWINGS showcased the center to the public for the first time at an open house held in August.

Since that time, the staff and board of THREEWINGS have been working tirelessly with numerous volunteers to construct and renovate the center.  Even throughout this difficult and messy process, they have managed to host numerous events there, such as film showings, a weekly writing circle and an election-watching party.  Now that the main event is completed, THREEWINGS will have regular open hours.
