SPD seizes computers, hardware in 12th Ave theft investigation

Police investigators hauled out computer after computer through the day Friday and into the night from a 12th Ave home near E Mercer. According to police, the evidence collected was part of a theft investigation but officers at the scene would provide no further details. People at the scene say two vans full of goods — mostly computers and computer equipment — had already been collected by 7:30 PM.

We have no information regarding arrests associated with the investigation. At least one man has been arrested in connection with the investigation. He is currently being held for investigation of trafficking in stolen property.

Neighbors said the house serves as a sometimes Apple repair shop. Police were struggling to open a stuffed-full garage to collect yet more evidence.

I live a few places down from here. This has always been an odd house – always seemed like they were hoarders (old signs, vans packed full of stuff, etc.).

Agreed. I walk by that house several times a week. Occasionally the garage door was open and that garage was completely filled (to the roof) with junk. Also, until recently, there was a white van parked in front of the house almost continuously, and it too was filled up with junk.

We live directly across the street from this dude. Always wondered what he was doing buying stuff out of random peoples cars at midnight.

They refurbish computers and sell them on eBay. I know because I was offered a job with them. Nice folks. It’s too bad this happened.

Nice folks? Apparently they were trafficking in stolen goods and at least one of them was arrested.

Haha, yeah, after I re-read the article I realized that’s what happened. I thought they had computers stolen from them. My bad. It’s still surprising, though. They didn’t strike me as an illegal computer-trafficking family.

Well, of course, sometimes people are other than what they appear to be. The investigation is apparently ongoing and no charges have been filed, but I’m betting they will be soon. SPD does not (usually) arrest someone for no reason, so they must have had some pretty good evidence that trafficking was going on at that house.

This is the guy we recently nailed selling this bike, which CHS posted about back in Jan. ( http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2012/01/04/victim-says-7k-)

One of his buyers traced it back as stolen, alerted ebay, and then ebay nuked his site. He brought up a new account shortly after with a similar name but only sold two or three things.

Always selling bikes and macs.

F this guy.

Aren’t these the people who posted an angry note about someone stealing their vintage Orange Crush sign several months ago? How sad for them. Actually (if it WAS them), I’m irritated that I felt bad for them at the time.

Why do you know so much about who looked up serial numbers and what’s legitimate? Are you a busy body? One of the busybody neighbors who was burgled?
