Northwest School’s student performance of the musical Crazy for You takes over Broadway Performance Hall Thursday through Sunday. With a cast and crew of more than 68 students, time your froyo run accordingly. Showtimes at 7p, through Saturday and 2p on Sunday.

Thursday, February 7th

  • This year’s Spirit of the Hill Award honors Kay Rood, the force behind our beloved Cal Anderson Park. Read more about her efforts and the story behind the park here. The Summit (420 E PIke), 5 – 7p.

  • Hot on the Trail of Heat: scientist and best-selling nature author Bill Streever shares his experiences and insight into hotness. (That’s heat temp. The sexy thing is at Babeland. Keep it straight.) Town Hall, 7:30p. 

Friday, February 8th

  • Opening party of LovecityLove, a re-branding of the 1530 space into experiential retail during the day and happening events in the evenings. Party includes a pop up shop by Tarboo and music by OC Notes. Yes, the same OC Notes who is in the Sasquatch 2013 lineup. Yip! 1530 Melrose, 7p.
  • Tabu, a Portuguese film “with one foot in the romance genre and the other in post-colonial commentary,” is collecting all sorts of film fest awards and opens at Northwest Film Forum. Runs through Feb 21. 7p and 9:15p
  • Author reading: varied and assorted new works from Northwest writers and poets Susan Jackson Rodgers, Wendy Willis, and Jason Skipper. Elliott Bay Book Company, 7p.
  • Human Lunacy Known as Love: stand up comedian Mike Primavera, relationship counselor Wendy Olsen, and an author Marcus Harrison Green offer “something to warm your heart, make you laugh—and possibly cause you to rethink just what it means to love and be loved.” Town Hall, 7 – 8:30p. 
  • Strong Female Leads, a work commissioned by Richard Hugo House, is the product of collaboration among National Book Award finalist Patricia Smith, cartoonist and zinester Kelly Froh, and poet Arlene Kim, with new music from Katie Kate. Advance ticket purchase strongly suggested, these collabs tend to sell out. Richard Hugo House, 7:30p.
  • Fhysical Graffiti continues Friday and Saturday nights through February. Part music, part street art installation, part dance, part aerial show,  and part digital art display. Unsure? Here’s a Stranger interview. RSVP required. Fred Wildlife Refuge, 10p.  

Saturday, February 9th

  • It’s the Year of the Snake! Seattle Lunar New Year Celebration happens in the Seattle Chinatown-International District with dragon dances, food specials, kid crafts, and more. Gōng xǐ fā cái, hóng bāo ná lái! 11a – 4p.
  • Fire Station Neighbor Appreciation Day: meet local firefighters, check out their trucks and see the station as part of the city’s Neighbor Appreciation Day festivities. Fire Station #25 (1300 E. Pine Street), 11a – 1p.
  • Children’s Storytime at the castle in Elliott Bay Book Company, 11a.
  • Family Mardi Gras! Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco music take over  Town Hall with two performances by Whozyamama. Family friendly entertainment at 11 -11:45a and 1 – 1:45p.
  • Candlelight Vigil and March to End Gun Violence starts at St Mark’s Cathedral (1245 10th Ave E), ends at St. James Cathedral (804 Ninth Ave), 5:30 – 8p.
  • Chance Fashion Menswear Edition showcases Portland designer Julian Stefoni and more. Entertainment by body painting artists from Artifakt. Neighbors, 7 – 10p.
  • Trivial Pursuits is a new annual, new works festival. Three directors, five local playwrights, and ten short plays come together as staged readings by a gaggle of actors who bring these original works to life. Continues through Sunday at Highline (210 Broadway Ave E), 7 – 9:30p.

Sunday, February 10th

  • Join the discussion of The Great Age of Russian Cinema; includes film clips from the early 1920s. Frye Art Museum, 2 – 3p
  • Staged reading of The Clockwork Professor, a new play by local playwright Maggie Lee. Elliott Bay Book Company, 2 – 4:30p.
  • Speed Rack Bartending Competition pits regional lady bartenders in a competition for awards and to raise funds for breast cancer research. Representing the Hill are “mixtresses” from Poppy, Tavern Law, Liberty and Smith. Competitors from other Seattle neighborhoods, Portland, Olympia, and Spokane will also be shaking it up.
