  • Medics revive OD’d man at bathhouse: Seattle Fire crews revived a man and rushed him to the hospital Saturday morning after he was found unconscious inside Summit Ave’s Steamworks bathhouse of an apparent drug overdose. Seattle Fire medics say the victim in his 40s did not have a pulse when they arrived. The crews administered CPR at the scene in a response that stretched out more than half an hour. The victim was transported to the hospital in what was described as critical condition.
  • Man’s plans to trade Jaeger for weed go bust: Despite pleas to avoid jail, officers arrested a man Tuesday for allegedly stealing $110 worth of liquor from a Capitol Hill QFC so he could trade or sell it for marijuana, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Police say the first noticed the man in the 800 block of E Pine Tuesday afternoon when he was stumbling around with sounds of bottles rattling in his bag. Eventually, the man put his bag on the sidewalk, two large liquor bottles attached with anti-theft devices.

When asked where he had gotten the liquor, the man told police he bough them from “some Native Americans at Harvard Avenue and E Pike Street,” but after a security check at a nearby QFC, the officers determined them stolen, according to the police report.

The man pleaded with officers not to arrest him, saying he was released from jail two days ago and he stole the alcohol to obtain marijuana, but officers told him they had given him the opportunity to be honest and arrested him.

Despite more pleas at the precinct, he was booked into King County Jail for theft of the Jagermeister ($59.99) and Bombay Gin ($23.99), as well as trespass charges, stemming from two previous trespass charges from the QFC in the past two years.

  • Tip thief busted: Police arrested a man who entered a Capitol Hill shop in late February and stole at least $3 from a tip jar before telling the servers he would “beat their ass.” According to police, the man entered the restaurant, in the 900 block of E Pine, around 11:30 PM on Friday, February 22nd, bypassed the long line of customers and grabbed a handful of bills from the tip jar on the counter.

At least two people told the man to put the money back, but he kept walking and said, “Yeah I took the money you low life servers, get back or I will take more of your money and take your head off, I’m going to beat your ass!” according to the police report.

He then walked out of the store and threw a handful of bills out of his pocket, according to police.

Shortly after, police found the man walking in the area and took him back to the shop to be identified. After verifying him with the victims and surveillance video, police arrested him for investigation of robbery.

Police say they found three $1 bills in his pocket.

  • Medical marijuana op slows burglary investigation: Despite knowing the general location of his stolen laptop, a Capitol Hill resident waited more than a week to report his home was burglarized for fears of getting in trouble for his medical marijuana operation, according to police.

Police say the burglary occurred Feb. 11, when someone broke his bedroom, in the 2500 block of East Howell Street, and stole a pair of Nike Air Jordan’s and an Apple laptop.

Before contacting police the homeowner said he had to check with an attorney about his medical marijuana operation.

On February 22nd, he told police he noticed his laptop had been turned on and location software “Pinged” it in the Central District. He drove to the area and found a suspicious vehicle he thought might be involved, and then went home to call police, according to the report.

Police then drove to the laptop’s “Ping” location near South Judkins Street and 26th Avenue South and peered through the suspicious vehicle, but did not see the laptop. Because of the high density housing in the area, police say it was not possible to get a better location on the “Ping.”

I don’t know what has changed but Steamworks has gone downhill the last two months. Way more drugs and druggies and not as clean as it used to be. I won’t go back.

It’s really sad. Haven’t 3 or 4 people died at Club Z and Steamworks in the last 12-18 months? If these were hip-hop clubs they would definitely be shut down by now.

Yeah but....

If somebody overdoses at Z or Steamworks, innocent people nearby don’t also die in crossfire.

How do you cope with a patron, unknown at check in, who has taken too large a dose of party drugs? Can’t. Wonder about Od’s in downtown hotels?

If any one has an iota of answer which isn’t just accusation, love to hear it. Stopping accidental deaths from happening, in any kind of case, seems like a worthy topic.

I agree with the other commenter–the people who have died in these ODs have only harmed themselves. There are too many drugs out there, and I’m sure people OD in lots of places–but since the bath houses are public businesses these get into the news. At least there is no shooting involved, which harms others, and which is why some of those other venues get shut down.

That logic fails to take into account that the bath houses are really just fronts for illegal drug sales, usually by the staff. Perhaps if they didn’t exist it would be more difficult for them to find the drugs to indulge to excess. And I am clearly not stating facts, but I think it’s definitely a discussion we should be having as a community. Perhaps require these types of clubs to have licensed medical staff on site at all hours they are open?

The Vancouver Steamworks has the same problem with drugs. Word is there have been 31 drug overdoses in the place since it opened a few years ago and the dealing has gotten out of hand. It’s really pushed out the guys just looking to have some fun, and it feels like there is a bunch of homeless trying to live in the place now, so its just not that busy anymore. Everyone in the community knows there is a problem but there is also a code of silence about it all as the city doesn’t have much going on and people are afraid another gay establishment might then close down.
