- Montlake robberies: Our neighbors down the Hill in Montlake are worried about an increase in crime in the area following street robbery reports. In one incident reported to police last Saturday night around 6 PM, a woman said her phone was ripped from her hands as she was talking on it outside her relatives’ house in the 2400 block of E Roanoke — but not before she got a kick in, herself, on the thief.According to the report on the incident, the woman told police she noticed an old, white pick-up truck with two men sitting in the back circle by her. She said she saw one of the men suddenly out of the truck and rapidly approaching her. The thief then grabbed at the phone and struggled with the woman before pushing her to the ground. The woman told police she then kicked the mugger in the groin but he was able to hold onto the phone and flee the scene by jumping back into the pick-up as the victim chased behind.
The description of the trio in the truck provided in the report is pretty thin — two black males riding in back with a white male driver — and there were no additional details about the vehicle which was last seen driving from the scene south on 24th Ave E.
In another incident, a man told police he was robbed on the street near the Montlake Bridge last Thursday morning around 6 AM. The victim’s story to police was that he was walking toward the bridge — carrying a brown paper sack of his prescription medication and counting $475 in cash — when he noticed two men standing on the sidewalk ahead of him.
The man said “about a minute” after he walked by the men, he felt a “sharp object pushed up against his back” and said he was pushed to the ground and robbed of his medicine — and his cash.
The victim suffered lacerations on his palms and a bump on his head. Police say he could offer no additional details about the men who he said robbed him.
