CHS Pics | 0 to 2-year-olds set Capitol Hill egg hunt record with 63 second performance

8603137719_c32bd07d53_bIt was not so much a hunt as an annihilation. Outmatched and outwitted if not outnumbered, the plastic egg contingent distributed throughout Cal Anderson Park Saturday morning for the 2013 Easter hunt lasted mere moments as all age divisions made short work of their foes. But it was the 0-to-2 competitors who made history Saturday turning in a regional record with their 1 minute, 3 second clearance of the grassy bowl at Cal Anderson. “I’m proud of these kids,” Big Pink Easter Bunny Guy said. “They really showed grit and determination today.” Pictures of the feat are below — you can find even more on the CHS Facebook Page.

What a joke! The parents of the 0-2 group were on their game this morning with fierce competition to pick up eggs as quickly as possible for their own children. Everyone was told to “line up” by standing two feet in front of a blaring speaker of DJ’d music which was HORRIBLE for babies and toddlers. Then several others “lined up” on the far end to ensure that they could grab all the eggs for their kids with no competition. This was a TERRIBLE event which left me nauseous for the rest of the day as I had lost all faith in humanity. Shame on you!!!

RL, it is never too early to teach babies to be greedy. We live under capitalism after all.

I agree! with you and Tom’s comments! I seriously don’t feel your comment was a unique one, I feel other felt the same and just haven’t said anything. Our group of people were very disappointed in the whole event. Chinatown’s event is more laid back, friendly and the volunteers made sure every child walked away with a handful of eggs and treats!

I’ll bet the logistics would be insane but it would be fun to explore the idea of an actual egg HUNT rather than an egg GRAB. Granted, Cal Anderson doesn’t have a whole lot of features to hide eggs in/around but the event was definitely more of an egg grab. That said, it was really great to see so many families out and about and people seemed to, mostly, have a good time. And thank goodness the sun was out!

Parks has combined several Community Center egghunts into one, at Cal Anderson, these last two years, presumably for reasons of economy.

The extra large number of participants surely contributes to the general competitive nature of the events.

A return to smaller events at each Community Center would do much to make them less frenetic. A bonus would that there would be a backup plan if (GASP) it was not as wonderful weather as it has been these last 2 years. You cold easily have an indoor event in Miller’s gym and multipurpose rooms: Cal Anderson shelter house??
