Thursday, March 7th

• Live Music and Art: Kurly Somthing, Gang Cult, Valu-Pak and a one night show of Kelly Sorbel’s art in tiny multipurpose space Gallery 1412 (1412 18th Ave) 7p. 
• Miyazaki Movie Madness: watch the anime film Pom Poko to which one of the greatest animation directors, Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle) contributed in production. Black Coffee Coop, 8 – 11p. 
• Author reading: 7 Essentials for Raising Successful Tweens and Teens by Laura Kastner. Includes down to earth and practical suggestions. Elliott Bay Book Company, 7p. 
• Spinning Into Butter is a theater production by quiet theater, and explores issues of race, assumptions and prejudices. Thursday – Saturdays through March 16th. Broadway Performance Hall, 7p.
• Search and Rescue features screenings of celluloid rarities from the vaults. During the program films venturing across time and genre will be twinned with badass local musicians improvising musical scores WHILE YOU WATCH! Northwest Film Forum, 8p.

Friday, March 8th

• Hell Camp Fitness promises the most brutal and grueling exercise program possible. Sound like fun? Read the description again. Starts early Friday morning at Cal Anderson Park.
• Authors’ talk: Fishmongers from Pike Place Fish share recipes and tips from their new book In the Kitchen with the Pike Place Fish Guys: 100 Recipes and Tips, Elliott Bay Book Company, 5p.
• Launch party for ARCADE issue 31.2 STEM + A = STEAM at the new The Bullitt Center. Donation at door, free beer, light entertainment, and brief remarks from  Denis Hayes, CEO of the Bullitt Foundation. Bullitt Center (1501 E Madison), 5:30 – 7:30p. $20 suggested donation.
• Art show opening: Green Gothic features six artists who create portraits of  the Northwest identity on both a macro and micro level: landscape, industry, the Romanticism of Ruskin, decay, regrowth, monsters lurking in the shadows, and the sublime. Hedreen Gallery 901( 12th Ave), 6 – 9p
• Only the Young is a coming of age story without agenda or narrative, and “depicts the reality of growing up and makes us recall an aimlessness we have actually experienced.”  Opens Friday and continues through March 14 at Northwest Film Forum, 7p and 9p.
• Art show opening: HANZ/HAUS, a collaborative art show featuring work by artist, tattoo artist, and musician Shannon Perry, and artist and musician Lelah Maupin. Cairo (507 E Mercer), 7 – 9p.
• Cliffhouse, a play about “an ideal place to shed the stress and strain of daily living—until three strangers discover they are the unwilling guests. Under the watchful eye of their odd host, Cliff, it’s clear that The Cliffhouse is more than a mere resort, and they won’t leave until they uncover the real reason why they are there.”Continues through March 30 on Fridays and Saturdays at Richard Hugo House,  8 – 10p. 
• Roger’s Afterparty: we don’t know Roger, but anybody 21+ can check out his afterparty featuring “Cotton Candy. Drinks. Music by DUG and Thriftway Transportation Installation.” LovecityLove (1530 Melrose), 11p.

Saturday, March 9

•  Search for Meaning Book Festival, produced by the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University. Over 40 speakers, including keynote by Reza Aslan and keynote by Michael Chabon in conversation with Sherman Alexie,  plus screening of the film Band of Sisters. Seattle University at various campus locations, 9a – 5p.
• Children’s Storytime: meet at the castle in Elliott Bay Book Company, 11a. 
• Sacred Sound, Sacred Space features Choir of the Sound performing music which showcases the acoustics of the cathedral. St. Mark’s Cathedral (1245 10th), Saturday 7p, and second show on Sunday, 2p. 
• Fashion event: Chance Fashion Eco-Friendly Designers features debuts of Paper Dollz Clothing, Epiphany Rose, and Genius Threads. Neighbors NIghtclub, 7p.
• Theater Anonymous productions are adventurous: nobody knows the cast, not even the cast members. Rehersals are one-on-one with the director,and actors interact with each other for the first time when their cue comes to speak their first line from their audience seat. Spontaneous stage blocking ensues. This iteration of Theater Anonymous performs Once in a Lifetime. Balagan Theatre at Erickson Theatre, 8p.
• Midnight flick at Egyptian: Willow. Although marketed as a kid’s flick, it gave us nightmares. 

Sunday, March 10th
