SPD locks down area community centers following North Seattle shooting — UPDATE: Arrest

Police were searching Friday afternoon for the suspect in a shooting at a parks department facility just north of Green Lake in an incident believed to be a case of workplace violence.

As a precaution, SPD placed all area community centers including the Miller Community Center on Capitol Hill in lockdown mode and assigned officers to the facilities.

SPD and Seattle Fire say that a 65-year-old man was shot in the chest in the shooting that happened around 2 PM at the Seattle Parks Department building near 80th and Densmore.

Police were searching for an armed, white, 47-year-old female last seen wearing a blue stocking cap and a green or beige jacket. She is believed to be driving a blue Chevy Colorado pickup truck.

  1. Zoom Piksa was assistant director at Miller community center for a couple of years. She was indeed very quiet and reserved but was efficient and hardworking. She tirelessly and efficiently ran our very large Christmas party for the disadvantaged families of Country Doctor medical clinic for a couple of years. I cannot even begin to understand what happened to her (TV news suggests a mental breakdown).

I’ve also known Biller Keller for many years. He’s always calm, efficient and friendly. We all hope he makes a speedy recovery. He is the heart and brains of the Associated Recreational Council, the non-profit that runs many of our City community center programs. I fear there will be significant issues there in his absence.

It is altogether strange to read in the news that one calm rational human being whom you know has shot and severely injured another calm rational caring human being whom you know.
