- Early morning mugging: A man told police he was mugged by male and female accomplices early Wednesday morning just after 2 AM at a bus stop near Pike/Broadway:
We think the victim might have meant Pine. The victim told police the duo made off with his wallet and some smaller possessions but he was able to hold onto his backpack and suffered only a scratch to the face in the fracas. - Cal Anderson violence: SPD responded to two notable assaults at Cal Anderson Park earlier this month as warmer weather has increased use and shenanigans in the public space. In an incident last Tuesday around 9:30 PM, police were called to the park for a report of an assault that left a female with a severe gash to the head after another female swung what witnesses said was a “smiley” at the victim:The report on the incident said the responding officer chased down the suspect after she attempted to flee through Cal Anderson, onto Broadway and onto Seattle Central’s campus where she was caught. She was arrested and booked for investigation of assault. The victim was taken to Harborview for treatment of her injuries.Meanwhile, the day before around 2p, a less serious assault occurred — we’ll admit the incident is mostly notable due to the description of the suspect provided by the victim:
- Assault on the 8: Police responded to E Olive Way and Summit Sunday night after a woman said she was assaulted on the #8 bus. According to the woman, a white male described as “homeless,” in his 50s, and “caked in dirt” said something to her and then flipped her off as she rode on the bus. She turned back around in her seat and the man then hit her with his backpack before fleeing the bus, according to the report. Police searched the area for the suspect but could not find him. The woman was not seriously injured.
- Earlier on CHS: A member of Hate City group was arrested following this assault and this Capitol Hill bartender has been charged with rape for having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
- “The only thing covering his crotch area was the spilled tomatoes” — CHS is not a fan of running police blotter material just to laugh at the depths humans can sometimes fall to. But we’re also not above noting when things get weird. Here’s the full report on an incident you may have heard about in larger media around the city that both plumbs the depths and gets officially weird. Take it away 1400 block Broadway QFC (you know… the weird one…):
The most classic line in the report? “While inside the store he committed the crime of theft by eating food he did not pay for and destroying food making it impossible to sell.” Understated and perfect. Like we said, it’s funny if you look past the wheelchair and “can’t walk” part. Onward and upward…
Sad to see Cal Anderson Park once again become a giant flophouse for vagrants. Every time I go there lately there has been some kind of crazy scene with deranged and drugged out people.
it IS sad. I dont’ even like to walk through there with friends at night anymore.
And as we all know, SPD has Cal Anderson as their front yard. Should be the most Policed park in America, since they can see it from the windows.
Not sure what everybody else is seeing but there are notably fewer campers in Cal Anderson this year — quiet enough that we asked SPD about it here http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2013/04/east-precinct-cops-talk-club-violence-panhandling-at-council-meeting-chs-asks-about-cal-anderson/
Still….to me it seems to be much better now than it was before the park was created; when the reservoir was open.
“quiet” is hardly the word. It is completely inexcusable to let the park be raided by drugged-out unpredictable vagrants who leave their garbage, their bodily fluids, their rotting clothing hanging in trees etc in a park that is to be shared by the surrounding community. I was wakling through there the other night with my BF ( the ONLY time I’ll walk through that park) and we saw a cop, stopped to say we were glad he was there, when he was quick to inform us, ” I’M ON SOMETHING.” Here I was thrilled to think I could walk home from work through the park if there were police there deterring crime and what not but au contraire…. SPD, please get someone assigned there and give us our beloved park back.
