As we are about to lose yet another independent bookstore and used books, too, will be in shorter supply come summer, here are two community-oriented efforts to keep the pages turning on Capitol Hill.
We told you earlier about the Miller Community Center “little library” — here it is:
Here’s a closer look at what’s available for your reading pleasure:
You can find it on the north entrance to the campus and play area.
Meanwhile, we learned about another Capitol Hill little library near Broadway via Reddit Seattle. The community librarian has kept the exact location of the site a secret but we’re pretty sure neighbors can figure it out.
UPDATE: Here’s another:
And another:
We LOVE this idea and are in the process of building our very own little lending library at The Vital Energy Center in North Capitol Hill : Across from the Bertschi School…. couple more weeks and we’ll be ready to share top books on health, wellness, spirituality and self-improvement. check us out! bless.
There is another little library on Belmont, between Pike and E Union.
“The community librarian has kept the exact location of the site a secret but we’re pretty sure neighbors can figure it out.” One might think that defeats the purpose of a library.
I recently read an article about “little libraries” all over Germany and wondered if something like this would fly here. Happy to see it’s already started. They had pictures of some great bookcases set up on city streets, as well as an old English-style red phone booth that had been converted to a street library. I bet we could come up with some great ones on the Hill, too.
