Seattle Beer Week kicks off on Thursday and continues through May 19th. Events include tapping of special kegs, label-sponsored nights, one-of-a-kind tasting opportunities (bonus points for knowing what a firkin is!), brewmaster dinners, beer brunches and much more.  Capitol Hill Beer Week event venues include The Pine Box, Quinn’s, Elysian, Hopvine, The Lookout, Madison Market, Smith, Jimmy’s on Broadway, and near the Hill spots  Von Trapps, Central Cinema, and Bottleneck Lounge. Thursday, May 9

• Artist talk: Kimberly Trowbridge discusses her colorful and inventive work. Gage Academy (1501 10th Ave E), 12:30 – 1:30p.
• Blitz Capitol Hill Arts Walk, 5 – 8p and later. Recommendations: Tentacles show at LTD Gallery, Line Power show at True Love, Tisa Pickering at Office Nomads’ Open House, Erik Hougen at Joe Bar, Jesse Link at Ghost Gallery, Kathy Liao at Blindfold.
• Wine Beer tasting: Vino Verite (208 Boylston Ave E) is changing it up this week and featuring beer tastings. This Hill fav wine shop has recently started carrying beers of high quality, good price, and those which taste distinctly different from what is typically available elsewhere.
• The last Cheap Wine and Poetry until fall at Richard Hugo House, 7p
• Buddhist Meditation class at All Pilgrims Church (500 Broadway), 7 – 8:30p.
• Barcraft! Watch tech games with other tech sports fans at Auto Battery (1009 E Union), 7 – 10p.
• Nanotechnology: The founding father of nanotechnology, Eric Drexler discusses  molecular level engineering and the science which is about the change the world as we know it. Town Hall, 7:30 – 9p.
• Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival starts on Thursday and continues through Sunday. Full series passes and individual tickets are available. The opening night program Gender Failure includes live multimedia performance of music, video, & spoken word. Harvard Exit Theater on Thur,  Northwest Film Forum on Fri, Sat, and Sunday.

Friday, May 10

• Aaina is a 3-day fest celebrating the artistic work of and about South Asian women and includes film, visual and performance art, speakers, and conversations aimed at highlighting issues relevant to South Asian women. All activities are at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park through Sunday, and most are free. Daily schedule here.
• Fundraising gala for Northwest Film Forum entitled “This Gala is Not Yet Rated” features dinner, live auction, new film by Brad Lenz, and DJ/dancing. Held downhill at 415 Westlake, 6p.
• Author reading: Novelist and science writer William Dietrich reads from The Barbed Crown, the newest novel in the Ethan Gage adventure series. Elliott Bay Book Company, 7p.
• Fill Tilt dance performances Friday and Saturday featuring choreographers Markeith Wiley, Kaitlin McCarthy, Alice Gosti, Kristin Hapke, and Jamie Karlovich. Velocity Dance Center (1621 !2th Ave), 7 and 9p shows.
• Ultimate Grand Supreme! A Night of Burlesque Royalty features “the reigning queen of bump and grind” and Miss Exotic World 2005: Michelle L’amour, the reigning King of Burlesque Russell Bruner, plus special guests. Oddfellows Hall, 7p and 10p shows.
• Kaleideoscope in Concert features dance performances by the youth dance company Kaleidoscope Dance Company,  Broadway Performance Hall, 7:30 on Friday and continues at various times through Sunday.

Saturday, May 11

• Spring Plant Sale at Volunteer Park, 10a – 3p.
• Cannabis Freedom March: Hempfest-ers set their sights on Federal reform. Rally 11a at Volunteer Park and 1pm March to West Lake Center. Is it coincidence that the spring plant sale is at the same time, same place?
• Childrens’ Storytime: meet at the castle in Elliott Bay Book Company, 11a.
• 8th Annual Pierogi Fest: eat as many pierogi as you can fit in your pie hole for one price. Event also offers a beer garden, folk group performances, workshops, kid activities, and more. Polish Cultural  Center (1714 18th Ave), 11:30 – 4p.
• OMG Ultimate Frisbee, Cal Anderson Park, 4 – 6:30p.
• Author reading: A Curious Man: The Strange and Brilliant Life of Robert “Believe It or Not” Ripley, with author Neal Thompson. Elliott Bay Book Company, 7p.
• Pink Prom for LGBTQ youth aged14 – 22 to socialize and dance. Organized by Lambert House and held at All Pilgrims Church, 8p – midnight.
• Moral Consequences of Digital Technology: join Evgeny Morozov as he discusses the implications of quantifying, tracking and analyzing everything and and other cautions from his book To Save Everything, Click Here. Town Hall, 7:30 – 9p.
