Police fanned out around Cal Anderson Wednesday night after a caller reported that a victim was being assaulted and robbed by three female suspects in the park.
According to the report on the incident, police arrived just before 8:30 PM to find the victim at the park’s bathrooms where she told arriving officers she had been robbed of her laptop and phone by a suspect who the victim said had “a problem” with her.
Police say Seattle Fire treated the victim for minor injuries suffered in the fight.
While the incident turned out to apparently be the result of a personal feud, the renewed concern about safety in Cal Anderson following a reported knifepoint sexual assault in the park early Monday has some living near the area on edge. CHS received multiple reports on Wednesday’s night emergency activity in the park.
Cal Anderson park is full of sewer rats.
Surround the park with apodments, increase the density, and that should solve everything.
Two attacks in three days. I beginning to feel more uncomfortable living so close. It’s really disgusting that adults behave in this way.
Capitol Hill is much safer than it was a decade ago. To the new transplants: The Hill used to be a smorgasbord of “alternative” culture, from (real!) punks, to drag queens, from grunge to drug addicts. No it isn’t (and hopefully never will be) Bellevue, but it honestly isn’t that dangerous. Using common sense will, in most situations, see you home safely. Don’t walk through an unattended dark park alone, drunk late at night. Don’t flash your fancy smartphone around while you are walking alone, drunk, late at night. Be aware of your surroundings.
I’ve lived on the hill since 1987 and honestly I have not seen so much trouble as since I moved up on the park. The summer attracts all sort of bad people there.
The Bly problems with the Park are the wannabe gangsters from the southend of Seattle who hang near the bball courts looking to fight and cause trouble. Bet rid of them, and you get rid of the main source of aggression in the Park.
I love walking through Cal Anderson during the day, but I definitely watch my back or avoid the place after dark if it doesn’t feel right to walk through. Unfortunately just part of living in a dense city neighborhood.
very true. The previous entry should be texted to every newcomer to the hill.
@ Nikki: You’re deluding yourself if you think Capitol Hill is safer now compared with 10 years ago. The almost-daily reports of serious muggings run counter to your assertion. The reason?….all the various devices/toys that people carry and are plugged into are prime targets for the lowlifes who frequent parts of our neighborhood. It’s definitely a downside to the “digital revolution.”
