Who is Capitol Hill ‘Giving Big’ to in 2013?

GiveBIG2013_880px_publicpage_webbannerHere is who you gave to last year.

May 15, 2013 brings another year of The Seattle Foundation’s Give Big day:

The Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG is a one-day, online charitable giving event to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations who make our region a healthier and more vital place to live.

Each credit card donation* made to the more than 1,400 nonprofit organizations profiled on The Seattle Foundation’s website between midnight and midnight (Pacific Daylight Time) on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, will receive a prorated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day.

* We will “stretch” all donations up to $25,000 per donor, per organization.

An alphabetical list of participating 501(c)(3) non-profits is here.

Consider this your public chance to make a pitch. Who are you giving to today?

I’ll be giving to the Ingraham Rocket Club. This amazing group of kids is trying to raise money to cover their costs for two high powered rockets to be flown at Fire in the Sky over Memorial Day weekend. How cool is it that high school students can build–from scratch–a rocket that will launch nearly a mile into the sky?

This is a great time to give to smaller local non-profits! If you’re a small giver like me, Give Big is a great way to make your dollars go further. I gave to Real Change: Homeless empowerment, Reel Grrls, CAIR, and Northwest Harvest.

I’ll be giving to Gage Academy of Art, for continuing to provide FREE weekly art instruction to Capitol Hill and Rainier Valley teens through their Teen Art Studios program. Every little bit helps!

I’m giving to Northwest SEED – connecting communities in the NW to clean energy, and bringing the awesome Solarize project to Capitol Hill later this year – as well as arts groups Velocity, NW Film Forum, the Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas.

I agree with tmonsta that this is a great vehicle for giving to small-to-midsized nonprofits. Even small gifts, when pooled together, can have a tremendous impact in just one day!

I gave to the GSBA Scholarship Fund. Tuition costs are astronomical and often LGBTQ students lack family support and need a lot of scholarship support ot be able to afford college.

I also donated to Theatre Off Jackson, not on the Hill, but a great arts/creative space!
