Vintage clothier Le Frock isn’t giving up even as the market-dense stretch of E Pine between Bellevue and Melrose it has called home for two decades is erased and redrawn starting this summer.

Le Frock owner Diane Stone tells CHS she is in the process of negotiating a new home for her shop (and black and white drapes) after 22 years in the Pine and Bellevue location. We’re told it will be a pretty typical Capitol Hill move — possibly only a few blocks.

Stone said she was hoping developers would keep the neighborhood “Hill-like.” “I’m sad that the neighborhood is going to be changing so much,” she said.

The change will be the latest in long-expected upheavals for the tenants of the Pinevue Apartments and Bauhaus building ahead of the incoming Melrose and Pine development. The new 180-unit, eight-story mixed-use building will require demolition, preservation, and construction on the existing structures, slated to begin in the fall.

Stone said it was too early to talk specifics about Le Frock’s new location, but said she’s planning to make some adjustments to the business. Expect details on moving sales and a goodbye party soon.

The Pinevue building has been home to Le Frock, Edie’s, Scout Apparel, Vutique, Wall of Sound and Spine & Crown Books.

CHS reported on the closing of Scout Apparel and the plans for Edie’s to make a two-block move. Spine & Crown Books owner Kris Minta wrote this essay on his decision to close shop. Bauhaus, located in the adjacent Melrose building, has opened in Ballard and plans to return to the corner when the construction is completed in the next two years.

It’s coming down to the wire for us and we still have not found a suitable location – we have great confidence that something wonderful will turn up.

We are looking to stay on Capitol Hill (but we will entertain the idea of other neighborhoods) and we are looking for something around 700 – 900 square feet (and hopefully reasonably priced!).
