Capitol Hill’s short but sweet season of outdoor cinema starts this week with the first screening in Cal Anderson Park of the summer. This year’s Three Dollar Bill Cinema theme will bring the likes of Conan the Barbarian and Divine to the inflatable Cal Anderson big screen. Later in the season, you’ll also be able to take in some classic Japanese “creature features” in Volunteer Park. Details on the summer fun, below.
Three Dollar Bill Cinema presents “I Need a Hero” Summer Series
Look, up in the sky! It’s a small army of super iconic characters, swinging into action and coming to save your summer with FREE outdoor movies! Three Dollar Bill Outdoor Cinema returns to Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park with “I NEED A HERO” — four nights of action-packed fun!All screenings are FREE and begin at sunset (around 8:30/9pm) at the southeast corner of Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park.
This is a smoke-free event. Bring low-backed chairs or blankets for seating, please.
Hot popcorn, cold drinks, candy and other concessions for sale on site. Limited lawnchair rentals available. Proceeds benefit Three Dollar Bill Cinema’s efforts throughout the year to provide voices and visibility for the LGBT community through film and video. More info at www.threedollarbillcinema.org
Seattle Asian Art Musem’s Monster Attack! Japanese Creature Feature Classics
Bring a blanket! This film is projected outdoors at the Volunteer Park Amphitheater (in case of rain, we will move into the Seattle Asian Art Museum Auditorium).

Capitol Hill might be down one “art house” but Seattle will make some independent cinema screen gains this summer. This week you can preview the new Sundance Cinemas in the U District and help raise money to support Capitol Hill-based nonprofit Three Dollar Bill Cinema.
